My wood-identifying skills are lacking, but perhaps the Blair Witch Project and The Village belong in this thread. Moreover, perhaps the original Evil Dead belongs here.
The RL "ruined hermit house" used at the end of Blair Witch, aka the "griggs house" has since been demolished; it stood in a relative clearing in Granite, Maryland, just a few miles west of Baltimore.
Likewise the original Evil Dead cabin in Tennessee has since been destroyed, but IIRC the rubble of the fireplace and chimney still exist as a cairn. there's a page on this subject somewhere in the internet as a curoisity seeker photographs the grounds. You may be able to judge for yourself whether the area has pines.

It seems likely. Pine trees drop needles that are highly acidic and destroy ground level foliage. That would explain the lack of shrubbery at ground level in the shot.

Seeing it recommended in Bone Tomahawk threads for me, I'm so glad I finally saw it. I'll probably watch The Edge sometime soon but I'm a little more nervous about that one.
The Donner Party is another one I'm looking at watching
