This. Nolan phoned it in. I'm not sure if he heart just wasn't in it or if it was re-writes because Heat Legend died but it is the weakest of all Nolan's Batman films.

It was a cobbled-together mess of ideas because Nolan and co. had to completely scrap the planned third film because Ledger offed himself and the Joker was still supposed to be the lead villain. But he was still under studio contract for a third one, so he made TDKR, which (presumably) isn't as good as whatever was originally planned.
It also suffers from being a "topical" film, with direct allusions made to occupy Wall street which left it instantly dated the moment it entered theaters. It lacks the timeless quality of the other two films, that sense of "this could be anytime in any place". TDKR feels distinctly like a dark alternate version of 2011 New York. It's kind of cringeworthy desu, because it acts like it's really important and it was obviously written when OWS was the biggest shit going on and then OWS died off completely before TDKR hit theaters and it just felt like a joke.
Also Bane's voice is fucking ridiculous and deserves all the memery it inspired.

honestly i didn't even mind the "occupy wall street" allusions but they seemed to just drop them hard in the third act. The final battle was shit tier, and Bane's death was disappointing. The Talia reveal didn't do anything other than make Bane pointless.
The only decent scene (ignoring the plane scene) was the Bane vs Bats fight

My biggest issue with the movie is how poorly handled the "death" of Bats was handled. It made it feel forced that HE WAS ALIVE LOL. Also, the ending should just be Alfred looking at someone off screen and nodding, but I think that goes without saying.

I believe that TDKR was supposed to be nothing like what we got, aside from vague mentions of harvey dent it glosses over everything that happened in TDK due to heaths death.
in TDK every conversation is discussing about how Gotham as a city has changed due to batman, and the joker mentions how Gotham deserves better criminals(not shitty mobsters) just like it deserved batman. The whole movie is basically hinting at all the other villains and heroes that will appear in the city like robin, catwoman, bane, riddler etc. but in TDKR all we get is basically a sequel to Batman Begins with the focus on the league of shadows and Razzle.
I think Nolan wanted to do a movie building off of TDK and introduce a lot more characters, but with the jokers death he decided to just go with a proper ending to the trilogy.
