>FSS of $52.4M after seeing a $22.6M Saturday, +48% over Friday’s $15.3M. The concern here was that BvS’ second sesh was going to sink into the higher $40M range. Currently, that doesn’t look like it’s going to happen with many predicting a -35% hold on Sunday over Saturday. The fact that BvS increased Saturday isn’t unusual. Many tentpoles experience surges in their second Saturdays vs. Fridays. Furthermore, most films in the top 10 on Saturday saw upticks of 13% to 48%.
>However, the whole -68% second frame free fall for the Dark Knight and Son of Jor’El brawl — which is just under X-Men Origins: Wolverine‘s -69% as the steepest sophomore drop for a superhero movie — has caused a lot of agita in the BvS camp, especially since the Zack Snyder film didn’t face any fresh studio obstacles this weekend. In addition, the counterprogrammers filling in spots 2-5 didn’t shave off any bucks from BvS because their demos –young kids, parents, older women and the holy rollers — weren’t planning on seeing the DC comic book movie in the first place.
next week the drop will only be 30-40%
