Cameron did remake the first Alien film, however, just bigger and dumber and more action-y. I do like both, for the record, but people tend to like both movies and think of them as different animals, forgetting that in fact when you think about it, their plots map one-to-one, line-by-line:
-Ripley awakens from a long sleep and is grudgingly obliged to investigate a strange communication (or lack thereof) from planet X, which suggests a dangerous alien presence. There's argument and refusal at first, but eventually there is buy-in from the team, so we have a movie.
-We get to know the crew a little bit and they seem to be pals; the team sets down on the planet, finding a ruins and evidence of alien life. However, everything starts going to hell real, real fast when a creature bursts out of a poor victim's chest, and then the body count starts ticking. When about half the party have died, Ripley takes charge and they try a few different tactics...
-and as the tactics start failing, it becomes clear that they'll have to escape the site of infestation, which is going to explode. After a company plant fouls things up even more (and gets his comeuppance), there's pretty much nobody left except Ripley, who has to escape the site before it blows - but she manages to rescue a small critter that she cares about, just in time. Ripley and the critter escape the blast and all seems well...
-except that the Alien has stowed away in the escape craft, revealing itself with a jump-scare. Ripley retreats into a closet and suits up, preparing to engage the alien one last time. After a tangle against the door, Ripley ultimately manages to push the button and blow it out the airlock. The final shot is a still of Ripley peacefully at sleep, with the critter nearby.
