He was hankering for some Russian pussy. He was tired of playing side kick to Franco's character and wanted to have a life of his own. He didn't feel like he needed Franco's help to survive because he had the gambling notes and knew he could just bet a bunch of money. Living with the same person for 3 years can leave you a little deaf to what their capable of too. He saw enough of Franco's weak side and probably thought he was a pussy that didn't like killing, which is true. He was ready to take Oswald out too, and was tired of Franco's passive approach.
But the entire show is dumb af anyways. They better have a twist coming so Oswald isn't the only fucking shooter. Would be redeemable if he is interrupted by Franco just as he is shooting, so he misses, but another shooter takes out JFK anyways.

Not surprised to see it lacking depth and substance. Should really only take 5 episodes to compete the story. The whole side plot with him going to save the illiterate guys family was a complete waste of time and it spawned the lamest character in the show (rhymes with Shill). The cringe worthy glorification of the 'hard working labor/trades American' during that side plot was your typical Stephen King projection. He see's himself as an intellectual connected with the common man and his struggles, when really he is a closet autist who has never done a days work of hard labor in his life.
