While I personally don't mind the prequels, a lot of the criticisms people have against it are justified. I think George Lucas was (and still is) a great filmmaker but he needed to collaborate with other talented people who care about the material to make the most of it.
I did like that after the prequels he started to open up a bit by allowing Dave Filoni more control over the Clone Wars. And as a result all the characters were better developed and their actions in ROTS started to make sense.
