why has the 21st century failed at giving us any new iconic ship?
and not just ships, why has most production design in Hollywod become so boring?
>>67785177
Say what you want about Episode 2 but this ship was GOAT
>>67785213
/thread
the re-imagined BSG cylon basestars and raptors were pretty cool.
>>67785177
space is less and less pop culture with every year
>>67785177
I don't even know what the Nostromo look like, i only know the name.
>>67785177
>Nostromo
I wouldn't call the Nostromo "iconic", most people wouldn't even recognize it at first glance.
On the other hand, the space ship interiors in the Aliens movies were top notch and very realistic.
>all that obscure warhammer shit no one has ever cared about
>>67785385
>>67785354
ok, maybe not the Nostromo, but definetly this one, the Derelict
What about this one?
>>67785177
Coolest sci-fi ship coming thru.
>>67785494
I know you're posting this ironically but
>Expanded Universe
>>67785213
Probably because its inspired heavily on the real life variant
>>67785494
>three kilometer tall window
>>67785177
Latest and greatest was Destiny, which is a shame
>>67785540
It's not a ship thread without the SDSD Freudian Nightmare
Also, apologies; forgot to remove my name
No USG Ishimura? Damn.
venator class is my jam
i like the Daedalus 304 ships from the Tau'rii
>>67785177
You can blame the rise of bland techs to marvelfags.
>>67785714
>>67786000
stargate always had comfy and cool tech
I think the Expanse has some neat ships.
Theres that new Star Trek tv series coming up. I hope they have a good new design.
>>67786003
now you mention it, i can't remember what the main spaceship from guardians of the galaxy looked like
>>67787906
You cant remember the Milano? the ship roars like a V8 engine
>>67785177
WH40k ones ruin that image as always.
>>67785530
My neger
>>67785177
>"the 21st century failed at giving us any new iconic ship"
>Serenity exists
try harder
>>67788448
Also despite the games being mediocre the Normandy is a pretty recognizable spaceship, at least moreso than a lot in OP's pic.
>>67785530
Also prefered Romulan Warbirds desu senpai, these are based too tho.
>>67788577
The Warbird is the best trek ship.
Reminder that 40k >>>>> all other sci-fi universes
>>67786000
I don't remember that, what stargate is that from?
>>67788645
No, Excelsior was the best one they ever had . Thanks ILM
>>67788648
how does one get into that universe?
the game? the novels? how does it work?
The age of Icons is over - everything is copied or forced or uninspired.
Icons no longer have time to brew and to cultivate an air of mystery when they are in our faces 24/7 thanks to the internet.
>>67788648
It's grimderp shit for 15y old kids who fap to space marines.
There are some cool things in there and the general idea is great, but 90% of the official lore and books are trash.
>>67788962
Atlantis, Human vs Wraith
>>67785177
>Interstellar
>The Martian
>Guardians of the Galaxy
>Prometheus
>New Star Wars Trilogy
>Star Trek reboot movies
They're the only recent space movies I can name off the top of my head. Star Wars and Star Trek are pre-existing as well.
>>67789329
I was waiting for this
not tv or film though, but I'd put the Pillar of Autumn up there in iconic fictional spacecraft
>>67789500
And none of them had iconic ships.
>>67789477
I honestly can't remember what the GotG ships looked like, minus those orb things they drove at one point
>>67789419
Its a gun..
>>67788648
Last in terms of space ship designs, they stink up >>67785177 so badly. It's for the most part "hurr durr my spaceship is bigger/my story is more X-TREME and darker than yours" the setting.
>>67789562
Agreed. I know it's vidya, but it's absolutely a classic
>>67785177
oh fuck now I've gotta go see if that 40k space game is out yet
Naboo Starfighter
Just wait for the Expanse Season 2 and the Nauvoo.
>>67789623
Pretty much. The ship is essentially designed/built around a giant rail gun, which is it's main offensive weapon
>>67789500
apart from the ship in Interstellar and Kylo's ship in TFA, all the others have forgetable designs
>>67789196
http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Main_Page
>>67785177
Don't think they're exactly iconic but still cool.
I think the covenant designs are pretty nice, shame most of the halo tv/movie stuff is trash
>>67789862
>no BSG
Please
>>67788648
Maybe if you're 13yrs old, wear your fringe over your eyes, wear cargo pants, a fedora, and studded leather bracelets than yeah, it is
>>67789571
I do not get why this show went under so many peoples radar,
The Daedalus BC-304 Is probably one of the more iconic ships of the 21st century though
>>67789986
this scene is a sin without sound
>>67785540
I don't even think that's from the EU, I think it's just a fanship.
>>67789883
still, the uniforms and specially the alien bugs were iconic.
I liked the Bubble from Oblivion
>>67785177
Because i gave up 3d modelling.
You have to look at Star Citizen for based Starship/fighter designs.
>>67789986
This. Re-imagined BSG was pure sex and fairly realistic too.
>>67789883
came out in 1997, so not the 21st century
>>67785540
Still would be less material moved (and therefore easier and cheaper) to make it than the unfortunately canon starkiller base.
>>67787741
OP is talking about iconic ships with fun, recognizable shapes.
The Expanse, like a lot of modern tv and film, suffers from having ships which are realistic and utilitarian or otherwise boring. This makes sense in the case of the Expanse which is generally hard scifi, but plenty of more fantastic scifi has boring "blob" ships with no easily-discernible shape.
I think it has to do with CGI being so prevalent.
>>67785177
Serenity is more iconic than most of those ships.
>>67790137
the endurance is the best spaceship aside from discovery one.
at least this two make sense.
>>67785177
how can you forget about the Kryptonian Dragon Dildos?
>>67788206
The thing is, no I actually can't. Nothing in that movie made the ship special visually
>>67791303
SC ships are shit since the Redeemer and getting less and less like their concept art
>>67791809
We've had plenty of great ships since that turd
Tell me this isn't the tightest shit?
>>67788648
How autistic do you have to be to create this image?
>>67785177
I thought the ships in Interstellar were pretty good desu
>>67788648
holy fuck the bias on this image
Not exactly /tv/ related but mass effect had some cool ship designs
>>67788648
>Ronald Reagan = Rowboat Girlyman
