This thread is about the discussion of British film and shows.
>what are your must-see series

DUDE CHICKEN MADRAS LMAO
>>67781543
I must admit, TV is pretty shit at the moment. All there seems to be worth watching are re-runs of family guy on ITV2.
>mfw I forget family guy isn't on bbc3 anymore and end up watching the screen for 20 mins thinking it's some wierd advert
>>67781543
I like UK humor, so my list of must-see shows : Red Dwarf, Black Adder, Fools & Horses, 'Allo 'Allo! and Misfits (really loved first 2 seasons)
>ongoing series
Peaky Blinders
If you have any good one feel free to recommend some.
British TV is mostly dead. I can't think of a great comedy at all.
It's shocking how few things are being made now.
>>67781848
You'll probably like Porridge, if you like Only Fools
Tellys shite at the moment, theres only corrie and gogglebox worth watching.
>>67781543
Adore him. Can't think of a single thing Partridge that I genuinely disliked. I was wary about the film but that exceeded all expectations.
>>67781933
Added to my watch-list.
>>67781543
>this is what you losers do on saturday night
Not me though I'm at a pub about to land a 9/10 to shag
>>67781736
The Fall is great man.
Also fresh meat is a guilty pleasure.
>>67781543
American TV ≥>>>>>>>bongistani tv
>>67782185
Good luck m8
>>67782233
Not really, they have witty humor and in some shows really dark humor. American shows( not all ofc but most) have pretty simple humor that gets boring after a while.
>>67782303
This.
Also brit shows are way slower which builds the characters far better, and suspense.
Happy Valley is a prime example. It kinda reminded me of the Wire
>>67782185

after few beers every slag is 9/10.
>>67781848

Thanks anon, added. Finally a good thread on this board.
What good shows have there been in the last 5 years? Don't watch much telly desu
>Toast of London
>The Night Manager
are the only ones I've seen, heard Detectorists is good too.
>>67782666
>The Night Manager
This show caught me off guard, really love Toms performance in it. Is it true that he is considered for next James Bond or is it just a gossip?
>>67782666
Black Mirror
Luther
Sherlock
Utopia
Broadchurch
Quite broad tastes but all pretty good imo. I agree though, these are good shows but there isn't much

Yanks seem to think that all attempts at sarcasm, irony or dry humour have to be punctuated by wacky faces and loud "funny" noises. Yeah that can work occasionally but not all the fucking time.
>davies was so much better
Nigga I have problems with Moffat myself but Series 9 of DW was fan-tucking-fastic.
Any Trumptonshire fans?
I always wanted to own one of the screen used models but I can't find anything on them.
>>67782666
>toast of london
That was massively disappointing. I didn't think I'd not laugh at Matt Berry playing a manly man, but it was shit outside of the woman who looked like Les Dennis.
>>67783228
It's a weird one for me. I don't find it particularly funny, but some of the ridiculousness tickles me.

Maybe I need to give it another go. But it wasn't Les Dennis she looked like, I was mistaken. She looked like Bruce Forsythe.
>>67783376
yes, but with more cringe humor
>>67783414
The second episode is also one of my favourites, watch it and if you don't like it then it's not for you.

What does /ukg/ thing of this programme?
I know it's Peter Kay and it doesn't do anything original for a sitcom, but it's a right good laugh. I really hope he gets that sequel/film made, and I really hope Dave Spikey and Neil Fitzmaurice are involved (Max & Paddy was shit tbqh).

As a Brit I'd say our T.V is absolute trash compared to other types of T.V. It feels so dark and dingy, even the comedies do. It's always filmed in such a low end way, with bland music, etc. Just overall quite terrible. It's saving grace is the various talk shows which are generally very well made, e.g Jonathon Ross. Compare to literally any American show, be it low or high end, and British T.V in general is always shit.
>>67782185
>no image.jpg
Not even trying.
>>67782303
Nah. I'll admit that for most of television history, British comedy and television has been superior to American comedy and television, but since the 90s they've been neck and neck, and right now I don't think there's a single decent British comedy program airing. Come to think of it there's not really any relevant dramas either.
Right now you guys have panel shows, talk shows, and newscasts. But actual entertainment television is woefully bereft of quality.
Rik Mayall dying was literally the worst thing ever.
>>67785682
>Come to think of it there's not really any relevant dramas either.
We literally just got done with two, Downton Abbey and War and Peace. Give us a chance m8.
Though if you still want to see British dramas there are some, they're just not gonna be popular where you are.
Its on kisscartoon but Wind In The Willows is amazing.
My other favorite is Tales Of The Riverbank, the black and white series, but nowhere has it anymore, it got taken off youtube and I cant find it anywhere.
US fag here
>what are your must-see series

>>67787155
not to mention it's classed as 'reality tv' when it's quite obvious that there's a big fuck off studio set up in the room and they're not acting naturally at all, I bet some of it is scripted too. oh and let's not forget the interracial couples for the sake of diversity :^)
If you haven't seen Blackadder you haven't lived

>>67789118
Aye, that's good aswell. Although if they've got shite guests (and if the new 'bonus round' thing they do now is shite aswell) it can be boring
The British are cucks who think making fun of themselves in the epitome of humour. Shit humour, shit culture, shit country.
t. Irishman.
>>67782435
Just like your mum.
>>67789533
Ayoade often saves it along with Jon Richardson but Jon and the bearded guy acting weird for the sake of being weird gets very tiring quickly
Utopia is amazing and remains the best television series I have ever watched in my entire life.
The soundtrack is fucking great and the tension and cliffhangers are brilliant, I love it.
The fact that it got cancelled is bullshit, fucking channel 4
/AsTimeGoesBy/ master race. GOAT whatever that genre is. Sexy adult romcom?
>>67781543
Does "The Supersizers Goes" count? And what about "Victorian/Edwardian Farm"? I LOVE those british historical series!
>>67790021
Anything like The Prisoner? I'd imagine them to have similar vibes. I'm guessing it wasn't multicultural enough for them.
Also only thing I recall about it was how they kept calling a comic book a graphic novel in the trailer, as a fan of comics it pisses me off since they are technically the same thing.
>>67790212
Never seen The Prisoner, I'll check it out.
And don't worry, the 'graphic novel' thing is sort of played to make the characters seem a bit jokingly autistic. Shit like people calling it a comic and the characters going "NO ITS A GRAPHIC NOVEL" to correct them. It gets a whole lot less important as the series progresses too, most of the time they just refer to it as 'the utopia experiments'.
