>Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justicetakes a massive tumble compared to its opening day last weekend with an estimated$15.35 millionFriday. That's an 81% drop from its opening day last Friday, which did include $27.7 million from Thursday previews, but even excluding those numbers you're looking at a 71.5% drop. Rival studios peg the film's second weekend dropping as much as 70%, resulting in a three day weekend around $50 million

I mean, of course rival studios will project that they'll fail. You think a rival studio will say "Oh, they might do decent". I'm not saying it'll do great, but I recall a similar article just before the movie was released saying that rival studios projected that it would flop opening weekend.

God dammit I hate these "Click verify once all images of ___ are gone" captchas, they're terrible.
>>
>>67774271
They can estimate all they want, they won't change the outcome. Rival studios often make guesses on how a film will perform. Sometimes the home studio is actually more conservative than other ones. For example, Disney had lower estimates for both Zootopia and Star Wars than almost any other studio. It's not a pissing contest, it's just a guess.

I knew as soon as those reviews came in that it would effect the amount of money the film would make. It probably will get 800 and break even but by the looks of the drop in revenue especially in forgien markets, I don't see it getting making that much more.
>>
>>67774424
There is literally almost no precedent of rival studios estimating a low weekend just to fuck with another studio. It is literally just what their in-house experts think. Being accurate on estimates is actually beneficial to a studio, whether its their movie or not.
>>
>>67774554
I don't think so. I was comparing the numbers of BvS with MoS and BvS is almost identical with MoS's second week numbers. If the drops continue and get bigger, it might not even make 800m at the end of its run.

Yes, but do you REALLY think an in house expert of a rival studio is going to say "Hmm, yes, this will do well." Obviously they're going to project on the lower end of the range on their estimate, as that's what they want to think. The studio making the movie of course would rather estimate on the higher end.

We joke but come on Marvel's Batman would be disgusting. WB already has the capability of making a fun superhero movie, its name is Paul Dini, they just need to tap that energy, make a movie like DC Incredibles and it'll be huge.

Also I know math has gotten good but good enough to predict at 2PM what a movie will gross?

MoS made less money in the opening weekend though. I looked it up and it only made 200 million opening weekend, BvS made 450. They have similar numbers after, but that additional 250 million is where the difference is. MoS made 670 overall, BvS is received worse, so 850-900

>>67774870
BvS will be more than profitable once you factor in the merchandising and licensing fees WB is raking in.

The real problem is that BvS was supposed to be a launchpad for future DC films to build a DC Cinematic Universe around. With the 2 biggest characters in the DC universe not being a breakout success this will cast doubt into how other DC properties might perform (e.g. The Flash, Aquaman, Cyborg, Shazam, Green Lantern Corps, WW).

If the 2 biggest characters in the DC Universe can't attract Marvel-level of success, the lesser known (or less popular) DC character films may be in danger.

This is less about BvS than it is about the DC Cinematic Universe as a whole. It's not encouraging.
>>
>>67774944
A drop this huge is fucking catastrophic for a movie that NEEDS to gross more than a billion and is tanking overseas

Star wars, for example, only dropped 38 percent its second weekend. BvS is projected to drop more than 70 percent

They aren't. Marvel has better critically acclaimed movies. Made comics darker and more gritty. Miller's DD is the main reason why ''iconic'' DC stories exist today. Vertigo is an Epic Comics rip off. Spider-Man 2, MvC, Ultimate Alliance, Ultimate Destruction and that 2001 Spider-Man are all better than DC games. Spectacular Spider-Man, X-Men: Evo, Wolverine and the X-Men, X-Men, EMH are all better than DC cartoons if you take off your nostalgia goggles.

Stay mad, casual. DC will never be as popular as Marvel again.

I still don't believe that one bit, no source was provided, just "I spoke to someone at WB!"

All we know now is that Suicide Squad is being reshot. Right now, Suicide Squad is the only hope DC has. If it does the same or worse than Batman v Superman, then the DC cinematic universe may as well be over.

>>67775047
>the lesser known (or less popular) DC character films may be in danger.
Like I said, I think the only thing right now that would tell is Suicide Squad. It's a movie with a ton of lesser known characters. So maybe, it's possible it'll do well as it won't have so many high expectations as BvS did. However, if SS fails due to being lesser known, then the DCCU is as good as dead. This is depressing.

The problem with using the grittier tone is in execution.

It seems like Snyder took a lot of direction from Nolan's Batman films and tried to transpose those onto Superman and the rest of the DC Universe.

The grittier tone works for Batman because of Batman's backstory. It's been built into his character over the last 60+ years. The rest of the DCU (sans Green Arrow) doesn't have as dark a backstory so grittier is not necessarily better.

It's pretty telling that there are rumors of reshoots on Suicide Squad to make it less dark. Whether those rumors are true or not is another story, but IF TRUE it means WB is learning some of the mistakes made on BvS and applying it to future properties.

I'd probably expect some reshoots or rewrites on the script for WW also.

>>67775410
Bizarro would have been much better for the film. They could have fixed it by pushing the titular fight earlier in the movie, followed by Bizarro, created as a clone from Zod so Luthor had a far more controllable monster.

Doomsday is honestly one of the shittiest villains in comics. When he first appeared he was fine, but you're right, his only purpose now is just like some evil Hulk or something.

I completely agree. BvS was all edge with not much in the form of fleshing out its characters or its central struggle. It could have done more to flesh out its characters (Lex, for one) like Nolan did for Ras Al Ghoul and the Joker but Snyder chose to go another route.

Wasted opportunity, imo.

I don't think they're rumors anymore, I think it's confirmed that WB has spent millions to reshoot parts of the film. Whether or not this was in response to shitty BvS reactions, or as a result of prior fan reactions to enjoying the Suicide Squad trailer for looking "fun" is unknown. My bet is it was in response to Deadpool, and WB started thinking BvS might run into some problems that were too late to change.

But now I'm even more concerned for Suicide Squad, because if the reshoots are as big as it's said, how can a movie survive that? I fear it's going to get butchered now so that these tons of new scenes can fit in or be rearranged.

reshoots are a good sign for the QUALITY of a movie, because it's a sign the studio has accepted that something needed to be fixed.

they're a bad sign for an extended universe which was predicated on a totally different kind of tone.

O'Neill's Batman wasn't even dark you fucking pleb. It's like you googled ''Who made Batman darker'' and posted the first result you found here. Sure it got Batman back to his roots, introduced new concepts which you could say made the book more akin to a noir book. It had serious undertones but it wasn't even dark. Hell, Spider-Man was darker in 70's. Even Batman and the Outsiders was darker.
>>
>>67775679
Yeah, the problem with reshoots is they're basically "supposed" to be edited into the final cut.

I was expecting SS to be more die hard, with a joke here and there but mostly serious but still a fun spectacle. I hope they don't go full retard, because I was looking forward to it more than BvS.

The problem when you make a movie solely for one type of niche audience, is that it takes a lot of return trips for the movie to be successful. The collapse of its #s after only its 2nd week are signs the movie doesn't have as broad an appeal to break out and become the tentpole to launch a new franchise that the WB was hoping it would be.

it's not necessarily the writer who decides that kind of thing. seriously.

>Zack: OMG BRAH I TOTALLY HAD THIS BAWS IDEA FOR THAT SCENE WHERE BATMAN SPARES SUPES LIFE!! WRITE THIS UP, YO!
>Writer: O-okay

that's what happens - or a studio executive like Zack's wife will do effectively the same thing. the writer can point out why its stupid, but if the reasoning gets dismissed all he can do is write it or quit the film.

For perspective: Roman Polanski literally rewrote the final scene of Chinatown the night before shooting it and then let Jack Nicholson say the lines using his "kind of language". Writers can't control shit.

Why would Batman even care about something like that?
He sees Superman as a threat because of his powers plus he became much more brutal over the years, up to the point where he guns down thugs with his minigun. Not to mention he even said if there is even an ounce of doubt about Superman's intentions, he should be treated as an enemy.
I just don't see how he would change his mind about that over the fact that his and Superman's mother have the same name.

Marvel has already lost to dc in video games, comics, tv shows and animated movies, and next year they're about to get their asses handed to them in the movies department. Bvs ftw

>TWO MOST ICONIC SUPERHEROES OF ALL TIME!

>KEKED BY IRON MAN
>COMPARED TO ANT-MAN NOW

Superman was saving people left and right and proved his loyalty to humanity when he stood up against Zod.
Batman's issue with Superman was his power. He was scared of him. The whole thing could have been resolved so much better. Maybe have Lois explain to Batman that Luther was behind everything and then in that moment, Doomsday breaks loose. Both of them facing a bigger threat, they decide to team up against him. Yadda yadda yadda, the fight ensues and Superman sacrifices himself, finally lifting any doubt Batman had.
Instead we got MARTHA

That whole Martha scene. I seriously wanted to walk out of the theater at that point

I know GL/GA was O'Neill. And I'm aware of the fact about his importonce on the industry as a whole. But Conway, Miller and Roy Thomas' have influenced more in general, Linkara.

But it didn't AMC's Breaking Bad

You thought the communion Space Devil was Desaad?
Are you actually retarded?

How am I throwing a fit? I'm just baffled because you are not proving anything at all. You said a statement that means nothing, and then said "Muh toy sales" as if it means anything, again, considering this fucking thread is about Box Office, not toy sales. Go to >>>/toy/ if you want to talk about what kids liking the movie means for toy sales. What the fuck are you trying to prove here? You aren't making sense.

They like each other

BvS has Spider-Man and Superman together? Woah, I might even see it actually.

The story where Superman is going around helping people and was joyful at the end that he had done what he could?
As opposed to this film where he scowls while helping and solves disagreements with threats and punching?

Also a fucking deleted scene? Fucking seriously? Fuck yourself. You're ridiculous.
>>
Henry makes a great Superman. He had nothing to work with in this film as far as the script went.

So you are altering your argument and conceding that Oneil's work was the original reason for the industry change? Its good to admit when you are wrong.
