Bumping because I like these threads.

Are those just 2 Star Wars movies? Which and why?
>>
>>67773888
Episodes 2 & 3. Ep. 1 was garbage. Eps 2 & 3 weren't much better, but they had fun battle sequences.

I would love to have Episodes 3 & 4 on Blu Ray (Empire is my 2nd favorite film of all time), but AFAIK the theatrical editions of those films aren't yet available.

Great collection, but what the hell are you doing with a Michael Moore DVD?
>>

I've enjoyed several of Michael Moore's films. Roger & Me is particularly good, but Bowling and Fahrenheit 9/11 are also good. If you agree, like I do, that the propagandic elements of Leni Riefenstahl's films don't diminished their quality, the same can be said for Moore. $.02

They actually are a continuous series, so it's best to start with the first one and go chronologically.

I would just start with the first. There are 6 of them, and there is a somewhat continuing story throughout them all. The first 3 or so are the best ones if you ask me.

Nah. I prefer Blu-ray, of course, but if a standard-def DVD is done right, they still look great on a 40"-55" HD TV. Problem is a lot of DVDs are from the first wave of DVDs in the late 90s. The digital transfer sucked, the aspect ratio might be wrong, the audio is sometimes only 2-channel stereo when you know the movie was surround sound.

Nothing beats watching a good blu-ray with DTS surround on a properly calibrated TV and surround system. Plebs watch 700mb downloads on a 13" laptop with headphones or even with laptop speakers that sound like a transistor radio. Plebs not recognizing that 60% of a movie is the sound.

There seems to be a lot of misconceptions in the music community regarding the differences between 320kbps mp3 and FLAC format. It is true that 320kbps is technically as good as FLAC, but there are other reasons to get music in a lossless format.

Hearing the difference now isn’t the reason to encode to FLAC. FLAC uses lossless compression, while MP3 is ‘lossy’. What this means is that for each year the MP3 sits on your hard drive, it will lose roughly 12kbps, assuming you have SATA – it’s about 15kbps on IDE, but only 7kbps on SCSI, due to rotational velocidensity. You don’t want to know how much worse it is on CD-ROM or other optical media.

I started collecting MP3s in about 2001, and if I try to play any of the tracks I downloaded back then, even the stuff I grabbed at 320kbps, they just sound like crap. The bass is terrible, the midrange…well don’t get me started. Some of those albums have degraded down to 32 or even 16kbps. FLAC rips from the same period still sound great, even if they weren’t stored correctly, in a cool, dry place. Seriously, stick to FLAC, you may not be able to hear the difference now, but in a year or two, you’ll be glad you did.
>>

Is TOS worth watching for someone who isn't invested in Trek? I want something that will last me after I finish Deadwood, but I never know if TOS had aged well, or if I should just jump to TNG.

I can understand torrenting films on the reg if you're a poor college student or just starting out in life. But I'm middle age and middle class so I want to support the films I enjoy. Why? So more films I enjoy will be made.

Here is my 3x3 just for shits and giggles.
>>
>>67781808
It's hard to tell. I'm probably autistic so I felt the need to force myself to watch TOS in order to get to TNG and I'm glad I did. I went in with low expectations but honestly I think it's still my favorite over TNG. It's very charming. Charming for things like when they go to a planet that has somehow adopted a way of life that mimics America during mob wars in the 30s. Or when they go back to the past and it's coincidentally 1969. And later when you move on to TNG, you can fully appreciate all the references and returning characters.

Nice pleb job watching movies that exclusively adhere to single genres.

It's a fine collection, truly. But the organization has to be fixed. It would look a lot sleeker and cleaner if you'd just separate your blu rays and dvds.

>>67788958
No it wouldn't. They're nearly the same thing. And you'd have to search through 2 different collections to find something.

It's a collection thread. Not a PC files thread.

Not if the collection coincide with each other. How difficult would it be to know your blu rays from from your dvds. This isn't that big of a collection... and who would keep buying an old format when the current one is better and new on is on its way.

watching =/= organizing

The only reason to have DVDs now is because Punch Drunk Love isn't on bluray yet.
>>
>>67789292
Yes, good point. I'm not saying just throw out your dvds (of course not), but a smaller collection start with the blu rays in alphabetical order and then at the end of the blus start the dvd collection. It can be on the same shelf

At my parents house. It's mostly anime. Here's a picture from July that has most of what I left in it.

great ozu collection. i'm in the US, but I should really invest in a region free blu ray player for the BFI blus of the early and later films

>great ozu collection
Thanks. I'm actually in the US too. I just bought a regular ole region B player from Amazon UK. Figured I'd mainly be importing from Europe.
