The movie wasn't that good. I don't get it's cult status. The characterization is all off and the movie is choppy. There was a lot of trouble during filming and the movie suffers for it. Even if the show isn't accurate to the books, the characters are stronger than in the movie. Alan Alda is way more fun to watch as Hawkeye than Donald Sutherland.
