ITT: We discuss the greatest fantasy film ever made.
Not so fast Peter Cuckson fans.

Why did Alfred let his son stab him like that?

>mythology=fantasy
there is not enough tit sucking and raping in modern fantasy 2bh
What are some movies with cute kings?

Good fantasy should feel like mythology. Tolkien knew this, C.S Lewis did too, and Gene Wolfe gets it, but 99% of fantasy writers don't and seem to think that LoTR was compelling because it had orcs and wars.
Really, I think that most fantasy is about as worthy of the title as Star Wars is of science-fiction. Speaking of which, Star Wars is excellent fantasy, Lucas' 'pottery' meme is actually a great storytelling technique which helps to tie everything together as a greater whole tied together by consistent themes, rather than the indefinite soap opera star wars is becoming.
How come every fantasy film today treats the subject like a joke?
Winking at the audience, nudging them in the ribs, being silly
Conan/Excalibur/Legend would have been the last time the subject matter was taken seriously

Tolkiens writing was mythology, it was pedestrian crap with bad characters, wooden dialogue, and a murky plot obsessed with maps and the contents of backpacks
>>67707837
wasn't
>>67707837
/lit/ is that way
>>67707837
Kill yourself

Is that willow?
>>67707781
If you want mythological writing I suggest Lord Dunsanys The King of Elflands Daughter, E.R. Eddisons The Worm Ouroboros, Evangeline Waltons adaptation of the Mabinogion, Poul Andersons The Broken Sword

Yea. Had a total crush on her as a kid.

>open up a discussion about a book

Your stupidity triggered me

I'm looking for a comfy movie that will make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Should I watch Willow? I've never seen it before.
>>67708023
>only stupid people would disagree with me
>>67707270
I just don't understand how you can like it that much, I really wanted to like this but the acting and the dialogue is so hamfisted, it's just awful
the visuals and setting looks great I'll give it that, but that is not saying much compared to the acting
I liked the 1998 Merlin way more in terms of arthurian mythology

>best board
lol, /lit/ fucking sucks. There are people there who still think
DFW > BEE
When it's obvious that
BEE > DFW
I'm bracing myself here, but thoughts?

Scared the balls out of me when I was wee by the end. It's pretty brutal in places

>>67708112
/lit/ made a sweet young woman completely withdraw from the internet
>>67707781
>Lucas' 'pottery' meme is actually a great storytelling technique which helps to tie everything together as a greater whole tied together by consistent themes
There's nothing consistent between the original trilogy and the prequels. The stupid shit couldn't keep it together between those, to the point where they could very much be two different storylines.

>Excalibur
>Edgy
>>67708184
>also, why the fuck are there so many women like you speaking so superficially about books on Youtube? Do you have any idea how narcissistic and vapid that is?
I think crazymiles was onto something desu. If she had her own youtube channel how 'sweet' could she really be?
>>67708190
>nothing consistent
But there's so much consistency that it became a meme.
>>67708184
Poor thing
