Iron man 1 is up there in the origins movies, it was even paced and tho not much action, but whenever there was action it had stakes in it.The villain had the weight of being tonys trusted friend, he would steal all his work had he suceeded. Iron man 2 was sluggishly paced, it had 2 dramatic plot points, one was about daddy issues and the other about tony coping with death, which they cop halfway through with bs science. The villain was sold to be an equal match to tony, iron man vs iron man, yet they kill him off in a 30 sec fight after beating cgi fodder.

Iron man 3 had slightly better pacing than 2 and other than the fight against the corny hotheads without his suit, the rest of the fights were superfluous. The plot goes around in circles pretending to be csi or some shit just to land you in the biggest dissapointment of a villain you could imagine. The mandarin, the chinese mastermind that constantly overpowers tony with his combination of magic, influence and tech is reduced to a litteral nobody, theres no villain, theres no stakes in beating some fucking bitter rich nerd, its a joke. Even more insultingly the allegedly indestructable suits get annihalated by shitty daytime television thugs, not to mention how preachy the movie gets after they kill off the remaining iron men, just so they can cop out at the end.

it was bang average. right in the middle. it was also pretty funny and a better comedy than action movie.
which was the problem. it wasn't a bad movie, but the "heroes come together" thing was already done. it was just a throwaway team up and formulaic at best. it worked in the avengers because it was the first time they were coming together, it had never really been successfully pulled off on the big screen with any movie franchise.
i dunno when the avengers come together like this to fight a threat, it should be a little more....lofty. like the avengers 1 set the tone for the next new movies. this just felt like another in a long series of movies, it actually feels like winter soldier will have more of an impact on the future of the MCU than A2 did.

No, it was still nice comedy flick with pretty straight massage underneath, but it made more sense. Ultrons didn't magically turned off when main Ultron was destroyed like drones from first Avengers, they were each destroyed by teammates, each member had equal time and they cooperated. One thing that I miss is Clark Gregg, hope they will return him in future films.
