What was her fucking problem?

Was she like a child who did not want a ball when she had it, but when it was about to be taken away suddenly needed it?
>>
In some ways, yeah. She came to realize she really did love and need Melanie only after the latter had passed (The book goes into this when she's at the Wilkes' at the end, it's one of the best parts), and that once Ashley became obtainable she 'figured him out' and realized that she was just infatuated with a fantasy. Whether that realization is true or if once he became obtainable she lost interest is anyone's guess.

Scarlett's such a fascinating character, it was a very inspired decision on Margaret Mitchell's part to make her main character the way she did; the way Scarlett hardens and adapts to the changes that overcame the South were the only way to effectively tell that story of survival.

Nailed it.

All the men in her life fucked her over, Ashley lead her on for years, Rhett abandons her to fight in a losing war and her father loses his shit and so she has to pick up all of the pieces and keep the family alive and away from the brink, which she succeeds in

Also Gable was based as fuck
James Garner [51] once stated that Gable, "...would not go down with the submarine, (referring to Run Silent, Run Deep, where the movie ended differently from the book on which it was based) because Gable doesn't sink."

No wonder he was Hitlers favorite actor.
