QT being way way way too smug in 2015
>>
First half was boring, and could have been cut down to 20 minutes. Cabin scenes predictable, it only got good when they had the flash back part, then it's just bloodbath tarentino at the end like usual.

Django made enough money he can do 2 or 3 more films indulging in whatever shit he wants to, regardless of how well it does in the box office

Then he'll go back to pandering

Oh my god are they going to find the 15 killers in town? And then i realized it wasn't going to happen like this and tarantula was a shit director

The rape scene wasn't explicit enough tbqh
>>
it's a 90 minute story stretched out to twice its length thanks to Tarantino's endlessly flowery and tedious dialogue. Like others said the carriage ride could've been cut way down. The flashback to the initial murders was completely unnecessary. In the last chapter it felt like they spent endless time discussing how much their fucking corpses were worth and trying to cut a deal.

Also for all the comparisons, Hateful Eight didn't have nearly enough tension or intrigue as The Thing. I liked all of Morricone's score but felt like it was a complete mismatch in several scenes, like the deaths of OB and John Ruth.

Finally the big mystery is boring as hell(They were ALL in on it, Warren was right about everything) The final act consists of contrived bullshit like Warren passing out only to regain consciousness and shoot Daisy just in time. Just as there's no suspense of tension in the climax, the ending has no real feeling of catharsis. How is it satisfying to see Daisy hang when she had already been slapped, punched, vomited on, her teeth knocked out, seen her brother killed in front of her, and shot multiple times? As horrible as she was (and JJL's performance was fantastic) I ended up feeling sorry for her more than anything.

There were some great performances and scenes but I was ultimately very disappointed, especially since I'ma fan of most of Tarantino's films. This whole thing felt like a rough draft that could've been made into an incredible movie with a few more rewrites.

>>
Considering Ruth anf ob die around a minute after they drink the coffee, what the fuck was the point of tarantula narrating that someone had poisoned it? Totally killed any sense of immersion.
>>
>>67688663
I'd say it added some suspense, since they drink the coffee after we find out it's poisoned.

I wish Taranulio would've had Harvey Keitel or someone narrate it instead though.
>>

>Taking the poster way too literally

The carriage (rather the people riding the carriage) left a trail of blood wherever they went.

>>67682143

>>
>>67682143

>>
>>67688772
Fair enough, I just think that had he not explained it before hand, it would have added to the sense of mystery, since the audience would have realised themselves that someone had poisoned the coffee when Jackson was doing his thing, and that they had been distracted in the same way the characters had been. having tarantula explain it cheapens it in my eyes.

I really liked Hateful 8. It's not the best movie he's ever made and it's pretty predictable. But it's just as good as Inglorious Basterds.

I don't understand why this movie gets so much hate other than the fact that Tarentino is such a big name now that lots of people go to see his movies and thus more stupid people go to see them than in the past and they they don't like them.

everything shit and hacky about this film and tarantino in general can be summed up with the fact that he hired ennio morricone to do the score

First half is GOAT. Great characters, snappy dialogue, beautiful cinematography and Morricone's score is phenomenal.

By the time the coffee gets poisoned it turns to shit. Instead of a descent into madness as eight strong personalities are stuck in a cabin together it just turns into a generic whodunnit and all previous character motivations and development is thrown out the window because "they were lying lol".

he went to films
>>
>>67682510
This. Each of his scenes used to build and build before they end, now they lag and sort of stumble across the finish line.

Also he makes awkward filmmaking choices without a real reason anymore. Like, this is an odd example maybe, but in the opening scene in the stagecoach there's this great long shot of Daisy's face as a song kicks in and we see exteriors for the first time, and it's like, clearly this is where the scene ends and we get to the cabin, but then it just cuts back into the stage coach and the scene just continues where it left out. QT's confusing "you need to know the rules before you can break them" with "now that you know the rules they don't apply to you anymore."
>>
>>67682850
>look at my deep and complex movie that needs to be divided up into chapters with titles, like a book, and you know that books are of a higher and more traditional art form than film, so maybe I'm trying to imply that my film is too, because it has titled and numbered chapters

>QT's confusing "you need to know the rules before you can break them" with "now that you know the rules they don't apply to you anymore."

That's a good way of putting it. His show offy confidence used to feel a lot more bracing, but lately it's been more annoying than anything else. Django's whole "surprise there are four acts" thing didn't actually work.

Also his music picks have been getting worse, Cat People in Inglourious Basterds was his last genuinely inspired use of a song.
>>
>>67691338
I didn't think niggers could be autistic, and then I saw your post.
>>
>>67688663
The narration had another, more subtle purpose- it highlighted how Joe Gage was able to poison the coffee specifically because Warren made a huge scene to kill Smithers, so that everyone was distracted by his story for long enough. And the reason he made the BBD story up to kill the racist general was because he was throwing a bitch fit over Mannix calling bullshit on his Lincoln letter. This may be me grasping for straws to explain why I loved a movie that may be pleb shit, but in the context of how both racial tension and deception play as themes in the movie, the narration serves to bring attention to Warren's responsability in the massacre- They all died because he wanted to kill a racist, they all died because he kept lying.
I may be full of bullshit, but I liked it.

Hateful 8 is the best thing Quentin has done since Jacky Brown. An authentic B-movie instead of nostalgia themed contemporary action film. Also, though the racial subtext was far from subtle, it was executed in a more interesting way than his other stuff.

But the narration wasn't necessary because we are actually shown someone poisoning the coffee.

The other problem isn't just "there was narration" but the fact it was QTs awful voice and what he choose to say. Had the narration been smarter and in another, smoother western fit-for-radio, voice, it could have worked.

the mystery aspect of "who in this cabin is working with DALMERGUKE" fell apart pretty quickly. The setup for the tension was great, establishing that everyone in the cabin hated eachothers guts. Then they killed the general, the coffee was poisoned, all good stuff. And then because so much time was spent on the buildup Quentin blew his load and had the killer be "everyone else in the cabin plus some guy under the floorboards" and have them all die/ be incapacitated within a few minutes. Would have been better if the interrogation scene where they were lined up against the wall were done different, they could have cut out a few unnecessary scenes through the movie and instead devote more time to building tension in the cabin over who the conspirator was

But the point of H8ful 8 was to make fun of that mystery aspect in the first place.

I like how it kind of just changes everything after Warren is shot in the nuts. Like "alright, fuck this interrogation, let's get on with it".

Jackie Brown was a box office flop

The first 15 minutes are cinematic brilliance, then he turned it into a boring talkie

the first 5 minutes of the second half after intermission is also cinematic brilliance.

It's just the other 2 HOURS AND 40 MINUTES IS FUCKING BORING AND GOES NO WHERE

dont you dare say thats the point. It was flat, dead and had no drive.

He has talent, those two sections in the film prove it, he's just chasing money and shit now. Fuck qt post jackie brown. He hasn't been relevant for a long while.

Why would I watch a movie made by a guy that loves licking woman's feet?

I'll agree with you on the narration though
