>Movie introduces badass mercenary team
>Most of them die within the first 15 minutes leaving only 3 people left
>Team brings along a woman
>Gee I wonder if she'll survive
>black female on the team
>she's a hacker

Isn't she married to a white guy
I know what you mean OP
>>67677422
this happened ONCE and it was in Macgruber and it's was GOAT
>>67677422
It's because they all copy Aliens. Shoulda copied Predator instead.
>>67677422
name 5 kinos
>>67677422
Deep rising should have been about the mercs
>>67677422
What film?
>>67677867John Carpenter's Vampires
I've seen it happen in other movies
>>67677648
It happened in Resident Evil too
>>67677723
But Dutch's team gets slaughtered just as hard.
>>67677422
>how do we make our monster threatening?
>establish that these really tough dudes are really tough and then have the monster kill 3/4 of them
Where's the confusion coming from?
>>67677934
It's a tired cliche and we know the "badass team" aren't badasses when they're killed incredibly quickly
>>67677739
The newest G.I. Joe, too
>>67678173
But that's the point you dingo, they absolutely are badass it's just their enemy is more badass
What would you rather, the badass team goes in, kills the thing within 15 minutes and goes home? You'd get a 30 minute movie and a thousand posts on /tv/ calling them the biggest mary sues in cinematic history
>>67677648
>I don't understand parody movies
>>67677422
>X-Men Origins: Wolverine
Not necessarily a mercenary team
>>67677929
yeah but their deaths are more staggered/spaced out throughout the movie, whereas most of the marines in Aliens get killed 10 minutes into the mission
>>67677422
>they're the dullest and the least unique of the team
>>67678778
Additionally, Dutch's team slaughters a shitton of South American guerillas to prove how badass they are. They actually got to show that they're badass, instead of just getting slaughtered in the first encounter like in Aliens.

>She incapacitates the bad guys unarmed using half the effort of the men despite having half the brute strength
I'm not saying a trained woman couldn't knock a motherfucker out, but it would take more than the limp-wristed love tap that seems to permeate female fight scenes.
I had high hopes for Daredevil bucking this trend as you often see him really struggle to make mooks stay down, and rarely achieves it with just one punch, but Elektra was bullshit, especially the 'origin scene'. I don't care how on point your judo flips are, it takes more than 6 clonks on the noggin for a 12 year old to kill a grown ass man with blunt force. She shoulda choked him out and snapped his neck, at least that would be semi-believable.
