So I brought this on DVD after my buddies in film studies endlessly recommended this.Jesus on a Unicycle, not since Bioshock Infinite have I seen such a meaningless piece of shit get put on a pedestal as the Second Coming. This was one of the most boring, flat-charactered excuses for a flick I have ever seen.. How the fuck did this get so much critical praise?

It's meant to paint a portrait of a boy's journey into adulthood. Nothing more, nothing less.
That being said, it does fall kinda flat. The characters are a bit one dimensional, and the plot doesn't really go anywhere (though, that is the point.)
Overall, i'd say it's good for what it is, but I doubt it would be quite as well-recived without it's gimmick. [Spoiler]Birdman beat it fair and square.[/spoiler]
