Will Hollywood ever stop this trend of creating mediocre reboots and remakes, and actually start to make original, creative films?

>Make original, witty, compelling film
>Gets lambasted because it isn't a Marvel-esque quip fest

DC was the last chance for cinema
>>
Nope.

Why would they? Making movies costs money and is risky. If there isn't some kind of garunteed payoff then they won't bother.

Young adult films
Reboots
Sequels
Splitting up movies into multiple parts
"Based on a true story"

Hollywood is out of ideas. They want the easy payoff. If you market something enough that has at least a little recognition to it (ghostbusters, godzilla, Indiana jones, star wars), then people will flock to it because it's familiar somehow.

there are lots of great American movies being made, just not many great Hollywood movies being made

and yeah OP, I agree but three of the best American movies last year were sequels:

Fury Road
Magic Mike XXL
Creed

it is possible to make great films within these confines but yeah, overall it's basically cancer. I can't see the trend ever ending. people's tastes have been conditioned to be absolutely garbage.
