They put so much the focus on this being a Justice League origin movie instead of a properly conceived BATMAN VERSUS SUPERMAN stor (to the point of even putting Dawn of Justice in the title) that they never really bothered exploring the thoughtful ideas that actually could've set this story far apart from the other superhero movies.
Even the trailers told us we should look forward to the movies to come instead of caring about what this fight really should've been about. And throwing Wonder Woman and Lex Luthor's scheming into the mix only diluted the narrative further.
It's like the people making this movie had no idea what Batman's anxieties towards Superman were really based on. Bruce in the comics KNEW Superman wanted to do the right thing. He KNEW he had a mom and was a farm boy from Kansas at heart. The reason he kept a vault full of kryptonite in his cave was because he feared what Clark could do if ever absolute power corrupted him.
So no, this wasn't Batman v Superman. It was Sucker Punch with DC skins.

I thought those were pretty explicit in the film. The whole thing was about cynicism vs faith, for example Batman is presented as a guy who's become totally jaded bordering on nihilism, and wont accept a saviour figure.
