Like, fuck. The producers know EXACTLY why they interrupted their regular schedule to show this chase. Audiences eat this kind of morbid human drama up. It's so twofaced to turn the dramatic conclusion of this man's life to attract viewers for profit motivations while simultaneously pretending to be some moral vanguard protecting the delicate viewers from exactly what you're exploiting to get them tuned in.

Well yeah, the media will do practically anything for ratings. However, they aren't really allowed to show actual death like that on air. So yeah, they were covering their asses, I can honestly say I don't think they had the intention of showing that. The momentary views may go up but the backlash and legacy of their news would take damage.
