The concept was intimidating sure, but they were so CGI heavy and numerous that they didn't have a weighty presence.
The avengers and JL would shit all over them. Thor alone could probably take all of them simultaneously. To my knowledge his use of lightning isn't particularly tiring, so he'd just renact the end of avengers 1.

The people that made that damn movie had no idea how to keep track of their themes and concepts, and mistaken ideas everywhere. The worst part was, they left fucking quicksilver behind even though he could have fucking finished this plot before it ever god damn started, and they left him out of it for one of the most arbitrary fucking reasons in existence.
