>Shot in digital
>Looks fucking terrible
>People still overrate Michael Mann
Michael Mann is a fucking hack
Digital is still pretty shit to this day. Every digital shot they try to squeze in between 35mm shots stands out like a sore thumb.
They just dont seem to get the motion blur and shutter speed right. Not that I am a tech savy photograph, but I always manage to spot when they used digital compared to film.
Public Enemy is just a mediocre movie made worse by the format it was shot in. Digital is better today, but not alot.
Michael Mann and the Coen bros have to be the most overrated fags on the world
>>67612898
>He couldn't even get Depp to jump over a desk.
Maybe overrated but Last of the Mohicans and Heat are still p great.
>>67612898
Bye bye blackbird.
>>67613108
I was on imdb last night looking at the Coen brothers and forgot they directed and wrote this piece of shit. Still, they are great and Barton Fink is one of my favorite movies.
>>67613260
I'm a retard, this shit though, so bad
>>67612898
His refusal of pandering to the meme loving crowd reassures his position as one of today's cinema greats.
>>67613108
you're basically me, senpai
do you also thinkPTA is the best active american director?
>>67612898
>set during a time when all movies were shot on film
>decide to use digital
>>67613325
this movie is fantastic though. it's memorable and funny
>>67613325
I think Intolerable Cruelty is pretty great but a movie like it should have broad appeal so I guess you can call it a piece of shit or whatever. Billy Bob was hilarious and I liked Clooney, Zeta Jones and her horrible rich women friends.
>>67613325
funny as fuck, great romp. u butthurt because its not 4edge4me
>>67613621
>>67613751
Struck a nerve? It's a lame rom-com with a mean spirited sense of humor that was awkward to watch and totally beneath the Coens.
>>67613621
All I remember about that movie is the cunt obsessed with trains.
>>67612898
One of the car scenes was filmed out in the country about a mile away from my house. Could watch them from the living room. They used my church as a staging area for some of the actors/makeup/costumes.
Haven't seen it in a while but thought it was breddy good
>>67613092
Digital now looks good. Back then it looked shit so unless your film is gonna be splattered with CGI, digital today won't look like shit 10 years from now
>>67613092
>>67613108
This tbqph my family and friends
This is one of Mann's best films. The look takes some getting used to, admittedly, but if you get what Mann is doing with it, the movie becomes great and the cinematography a strength.
>Mann
>overrated
>Thief
>Manhunter
>Heat
>Collateral
>The Last of the Mohicans
>The Aviator
At least Public Enemies isn't as bad as Miami Vice and Blackhat
>>67614862
Collateral and Heat are dull, lifeless movies whose only redeeming qualities are the action sequences.
>>67614862
>>The Aviator
That's Scorsese
>>67614862
>At least Public Enemies isn't as bad as Miami Vice and Blackhat
>naming three of Mann's best films
>'bad'
>>67614988
>988 ▶
>>>67614862
>>>The Aviator
>That's Scorsese
Mann produced it and was originally going to direct, too.
ITT: retards
>>67615042
But he didn't...
>>67615008
>three best movies
>not Thief, Heat or Collateral
>>67613984
I honestly think digital is inherently bad and will probably always look bad. I hope to god film doesn't die any time soon.
>>67615204
Nah I think film has gained a little bit of a resurgence now. Digital will was get better though. It'll take awhile but it'll happen. Plus film will never leave. Too many people have a love for it for it to go away completely. In fact I bet a company will start making more film cause there is always those companies that wanna bring back vintage stuff. Hell, Polaroids came back, and vinyl is more profitable than when it first came out so film will never die
>>67615204
It will eventually
>m-muh grain
Top kek
>>67615204
Digital will only get better. Soon enough it'll look better than film
>>67615399
And soon robots will perform all of our occupations and chores. Soon.
>>67615320
A filmic image is composed of grain. What are you trying to communicate here?
>>67615141
according to imdb and wikipedia, this guy was 50 at the time they shot Thief. motherfucker looks at least 70
don't know why people are so against a new aesthetic. i personally like the look of the film and others shot digitally and make it look so. Mann did the same with Collateral, gave digital its own aesthetic.
i also don't understand the criticism that period pieces should be shot to look like old movies. wtf? embrace the new technology. people bitching about this are the offspring of the same people who booed bob dylan when he went electric or when the first exhibitionist paintings were hung at a gallery.
anyone see the new director's cut of Blackhat? still same bad? i was really let down by it. the cinematography was its saving grace.
>>67616755
The only people who have seen it are the ones who made it out to the Mann retrospective in New York in Feb. It will probably get a home video release at some point, but from whom, I have no clue. Maybe Criterion?
the real public enemy patrician choice
>>67613092
>Not that I am a tech savy photograph, but I always manage to spot when they used digital compared to film.
It's blatantly obvious most of the times desu
I shoot film but c'mon
