Why is American comedy so inferior to British humor?
>>
Why is America so inferior to Britain?

Because it's populated by puritan rejects and irish immigrants.
>>
>>67593935
how has that held up? been meaning to watch it again
>>
I haven't had much sucess with British comedy
I watched Hot Fuzz and it was dumb. I only liked the part when they watched Bad Boys 2
>>
>>67593935
If Big Bang Theory had been Six well written episodes, it'd endure. They knew it was best to keep this short and sweet.
I guess that's also why the spin off chat show bombed.
>>
>>67593935
I haven't really been paying attention to Gamergate but I found out today from a friend that Graham Lineham is a tremendous faggot. I checked his twitter and sure enough: the guy who wrote Black Books and Father Ted is an utter bag-of-shit. Not in a fun way either, in a lumbering and pathetic way. I don't know what to think about anything anymore.
>>
>>67594191
I did the exact same thing when I finished The IT Crowd I couldn't believe the creator of such a show could be such a progressive leftie faggot,

Eh, both are hit and miss. I've seen some subtle and brilliant American comedies and I've seen some big, dumb messes. I've also seen some witty, intelligent British comedies and some embarrassing old-man-in-a-wig-pretending-to-be-a-loud-housewife shitpiles.

It goes both ways. Brit comedy can be pretty terrible. Every bit as terrible as American comedy.
>>
>>67594365
Be an infantile feminist nu-male mate, I honestly don't give a fuck, but Lineham's a hypocritical faggot and you're a cunt
>>
Because they keep making comedies about a group 20-30 somethings trying to make it in some shit-hole, shows like rules of engagement, the undateables, trying to be the next Seinfeld and they all fail miserabley. Some American comedy is ok but 99.99% is fucking awful.
>>
>>67594739
I remember having a physical reaction to reading the synopsis of that Aziz Ansari show on Netflix, Masters of None, for that exact reason. I'm tired of watching upper-middle class man-children (male and female) try to "find" themselves, it fucking disgusts me at this point tbqhfamilia
>>
>>67594365

Not one of those guys, but he unironically talks about safe spaces on his twitter. It's kind of embarrassing. The left never used to be this pathetic.

Americans suffer because of the chokehold commercialism has on their TV.

They really do have to dumb down, and not offend too many Christians, or they won't sell advert slots. It has to stay firmly in the middle of the road.

British writers, especially on the BBC but also partially-funded Channel 4, have no such consideration to make.
>>
>>67594835
And?
I don't care if he wants mandatory gender reassignment to be made law, or any other politics he has.
I only care if he entertains.
>safe space
You know you're in one right, anon?

>>67594835
Think about what his main audience is, anon; lefty students. I'm not saying he's that cynical, but it does make sense that he'd go along with that crowd.

can't say i agree with this in general, but darkplace is god-tier, i'll give you that

because bongs don't have to stretch their writing thin over 9 seasons of 24 episodes, an american 'comedy' being two seasons of 6 episodes would start riots

Hot Fuzz is one of those comedies that I enjoyed but it isn't actually funny. It's just an entertaining film.
The only truly great British sitcom (which is to say is on par with Fraiser) is Fawlty Towers. (Maybe Black Adder too)
Every other British comedy is "here is an overly verbose insult that I think is clever" or "here is a joke...a guy in a dress"
>>
>>67594832

The Aziz show was actually not that bad. But that other Netflix show Flaked about the man-child in Venice trying to find himself is terrible in all the ways you expect.
>>
>>67594912

How is 4chan a safe space? I call other people faggots all day and get called one in return. It's the very opposite of a university safe space.
>>
>>67593935
Because comedy and humor come from pain and suffering, and being British sucks.

Utopia and Hollowmen are great political satires from Australia if you likes The Thick of it or Yes Prime Minister.

I agree with your sentiment, it's the chockhold of commercialism and the dumbing down of content that makes American comedy fall flat, I find it is also far too overproduced and "clean" as well compared too British comedy.

Trailer Park Boys was fantastic of what I've seen of it. (quite a few episodes)

I think it's the best proper American TV comedy series (that isn't a sitcom) I've seen so far.

I don't know anon, how could being anon be safe anon?
How can being free to express your views without it being linked to you be safe, anon?

Why do /brit/fags do nothing but make bait threads all day old?

Oh, because they're poor, that's why.
>>
>>67596036
It's true desu.

Every board is just the same few threads over and over again. We have this one around a dozen times a week.
>>
>>67596132

That's not a "safe space", though. Why even reply to my post before if you don't know what the subject is? Safe space are neutered zones on (mostly) university property where free speech is limited to speech that makes everybody comfortable and all confrontation is avoided. It's not about free speech. It's not about anonymity. It's about feelings.
>>
>>67593935
*humour
>>
I still prefer It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Darkplace was good at first but the later episodes were boring. That description of Glasgow by Dag, though.
>>
>>67596394
If your feelings are hurt you are shielded by anonymity. This is a safe space.
You can avoid all confontation by hiding threads. Safe Space.
You don't take what anyone here says seriously no matter how offensive, in effect protecting from it. Safe Space.
If you bothered to read, you'd see this started up based on comments about twitter being a safe space, so no, it's not just uni campuses.
>>
>>67593935
>see this show playing all the time.
>think they just bought some garbage from the 70s as filler and avoid it.

>>67596157
Britain making fun of Americans is kinda like a guy in a Pinto who thinks he can beat your Lancer in a street race. Yeah, when I want to live in a powder keg filled with third world migrants under constant surveillance from a Big Brother entity and make 60k a year as a doctor while Chavs hang out outside my apartment and pull knives on me every single day while the cops look away and I have to avoid the no go zones or die.... I might want to live in the UK.

>>
>>67596858

But we don't shut down speech on 4chan. I can ignore comments I don't like, but that's my responsibility. Rather than the offending party having responsibility for his speech's effect.
>>
>>67597128
Yes you do.
Try saying anything percieved as 'SJW', see what happens.
This is just a safe space of another flavour.
>>
>>67596157
Because Brits are a miserable people with dreary lives who seek escapism and have irrational tempers but no actual outlet for them. Passive aggressiveness is quite literally the British way and 4chan allows them a place to vent without seeming "improper" to their neighbours with outright savage behaviour displayed in such examples as >>67597071 who is more likely than not a Paki shoppie, easily offended.
>>
>>67595344
>Every other British comedy is "here is an overly verbose insult that I think is clever" or "here is a joke...a guy in a dress"

I'll always love Izzard for just going on stage and talking about evil ducks instead of continuously making a big deal out of the fact that he's a transvestite.
