It's actually quite great. Really good performances (Keanu Reeves is surprisingly excellent in a supporting role), and the mystery is engaging. It's a really solid 2000s-era thriller, and Raimi is just a generally consistent filmmaker.

I think his camera is the best thing about horror, in Evil Dead 2. The thing just rushes to the characters and they get fucking spooked and that's it. Sort of felt like a meta commentary about how viewers want to see them suffer, shown to them, and that was great. Really no reason for CAbin in the Woods to exist (it basically was the same as ED/ED2 but not as 'smart' with meta commentary)
Was disappointed how it was 'shown' in the TV-series in broad daylight, just didn't fit.

I did enjoy the latest Evil Dead film despite all this. The ending with raining blood is quite funny, since I've read so many reviews saying the original EDs are paced like 30 minute trash metal album and now you have 'reference' to one such (though I might read too much into it) - Reign in Blood

Id recommend watching the Eurocrime doc first, that will give all the interest you need, it's fantastic
Then the Fernando Di Leo stuff is a good entry, probably watch Milano Calibro 9, di Leo has the best blend of sleaze and car chases and the fun tropes, while also being a fairly good writer, which a lot of other films miss. If the sleaze/violence is the main draw maybe start with a Lenzi one, perhaps Gang war in Milan.
