Can we all just be honest and say this show is horrible on all levels and one of if not THE worst show HBO has ever aired? Why is this getting a second season?
Vinyl renewed, Togetherness cancelled. What a joke.
>>67556869
the second season of Togetherness has been pretty bad honestly. One great episode where they go to Detroit, but everything else is just a mess.
I should really drop Vinyl but I can't. It has a lot of characters I like even if Richie is kind of a weak lead.
It's a very "safe" show, like Scorcese didn't really care about it and just put all of his generic tropes in this one
>Vinyl pros
Olivia Wilde and Juno Temple nude
>Vinyl cons
Everything else
>>67557021
>nude
She wears a bodysuit
the overacting in this show is ridiculous. needs more Ray Romano.
>>67556830
I've actually been enjoying it more than I thought I would. I wasn't a big fan of Boardwalk Empire, this one isn't really much better from a writing standpoint, but Cannavale's cokehead antics have been kind of carrying the show for me. And the little touches of surrealism are nice too, I really liked the last episode with the amoral German hallucination following him around everywhere and giving him bad advice
>>67557302
This.
Ray Romano is the best thing about this show. He's really fantastic.
>>67557021
>Juno Temple nude
>pro
>>67557833
Her body is pretty tight.
>>67557700
I bet you think breaking bad > sopranos too
Girls is still the worst thing HBO ever allowed to air without question
Vinyl is pretty meh though given the hype for it
>>67558951I unironically enjoy girlsIt hits the spot in my heart for living in the city and having shitty friendsshosh is best girl
>>67558951
>the girls is a bad show meme
I guess you have to be somewhat of a functioning adult to understand it.
>>67559044
Hi Lena
>>67559044
But the entire point of the show is that none of them are functional adults
>>67559044
yeah thats their demographic
>>67559092
>>67559103
>>67559144
if you can't relate to one of the story lines covered in girls over 5 seasons than you're probably not living enough.
Vinyl is asking us to relate to a guy who has arguably one of the most enviable positions in showbiz, who acts like making a living discerning good and bad music is akin to working in a coal mine. "oh the struggle! what ever happened to GOOD MUSIC".... blech.

The main character is more pathetic than Don Draper and that's saying something.

The five people I know that like this show, love Ray Romano character but I don't understand why?
He's not even relevant, but again I have not watched the chapter from last night.
>>67556830
Do not agree
It's a poor imitation of Mad Men and the characters are not as deep as I'd like, but it's superficial entertainment and a good period piece
Seeing actors portray music legends from the era is really fun and usually spot on and the music video-esque segments are cool.
Richie is a big faggot though, and I'm enjoying watching him loose his sanity to cocaine and booze.
Essentially the story arch is by the book and not very exciting, but it's full of color and high production quality.
I'm gonna keep watching, it's fun
I enjoy the show. More for the music than the storyline.
I don't really like the coked out antics, because I have had friends get deep into drugs, and have seen the slide they cause.
I do like June Temple nude. I like the intro song.
Last week with the velvet underground playing "white light white heat" was pretty awesome.
I know the show doesn't follow real timelines, but I just imagine it would have been pretty sweet walking into a nightclub in New York and watching the velvet underground play.
>>67560697
it was just lou reed tho
>>67560667
>good period piece
The brady bunch movie was less subtle with its costume and set design
>Last week with the velvet underground playing "white light white heat" was pretty awesome.
the fact that every incidental occurrence is historically significant 'forrest gump's' the show and drains any weight of said occurence
>less subtle
I meant more subtle.
>>67560758
I would go see Lou play white light white heat in a smoky nightclub in New York.
really, the show could just be June Temple nude, and smoking while listening to rock bands and rock music from the late 60's and early 70's and I would watch.
>>67560885
oh yeah I agree
I actually watch it every week puffing some weed with my roommate
>>67560839
>is historically significant
a NY based based band playing in NY is not an historical recurrence, it's a monthly reoccurence.
The people in charge of the visual aspect of the show did a great job, everything else is just sloppy and Terrence Winter is a genuine hack.
Its ok, but I'm kind of a nerd for 70s rock, especially the emerging punk scene. Now known as "dadrock" to a majority of this sites users.
I thought Richie was turning a rock and redeeming himself till he pulled that shit at the casino. Seeing bloated, old elvis as a shell of his former self was great too.
This show still has potential. It just needs some re-working.
>>67557208
>bodyshit
elaborate please
>>67556830
worst show HBO has ever aired? HELL NO. is it any good? eh. it has its charms. seems only people who are fans of the music can get into it. the use of Buddy Holly's Rave On after the crash was fucking brilliant. the Alic cooper stuff was a bit overwrought. the show's a hot mess, just like rock n roll.
as for the worst show HBO ever aired, i'd nominate Togetherness (bland), Ballers (awful writing), or The Brink (mediocre nonsense). and these are from the last year. they've aired some real stinkers, man.
>>67561384
im a huge music nerd and this its sickeningly cliché.
>>67557006
it's not scorsese's show
>>67561644
it is. these clichés exist for a reason, 70's studio rock created many of them. however, the writing can be spruced up some or brought down to earth. not every episode has to be a best hit. i would have absolutely preferred a more nuanced take on the subject matter, but i still enjoy watching the series for what it is. i'd also like to add that i found Scorsese's initial episode/pilot the worst of the bunch. thank god they got rid of the voice-over, too. as i said before, the show's a muddled mess. however, it's nowhere near the worst stuff HBO has aired.
>>67559451
Every female character on Girls is a spoiled brat. At least Richie is entertaining and worked his way to the top.
Characters I love: Ray Romano, Juno Temple, the mafioso guys (best part of the episode honestly), occasionally Max Casella
Characters I hate: Olivia Wilde, the lame white guy who is a walking punchline in every scene he's in.
Characters I'm kind of indifferent about: Nasty Bits guy, the black manager with no voice, Richie.
>>67560072
It's not that he's particularly relevant, it's that he's believable. Like a guy who isn't particularly talented and often puts his foot in his mouth but is basically decent and made the right friends. He's the most realistic character on a show I've seen in a long time. The fact that most people thought he didn't amount to a naggy Homer facsimile and it turns out the guy can actually act is pretty fucking surprising.
Still think Canavale's the best thing about the show but then I can see people not liking the character. But the way he dances into the rooms when he's coked up is priceless.
>>67561140
>Its ok, but I'm kind of a nerd for 70s rock
Same
>I thought Richie was turning a rock and redeeming himself till he pulled that shit at the casino.
Same.
Fuck, it's like I made this post myself. Kinda curious when Finestra is going to stop being the source of every problem on the show.
