The main problem with Batman vs Superman is its tone. It's just too fucking depressing. All the terrorism and allegories to real shit happening in the world just sucks all the life and fun out of what should be an entertaining superhero flick. While watching it, I could help but think about the Brussels attack, and it was just fucking depressing. Maybe it would work if the movie were deep with an interesting message, but it's a pretty shallow movie without a real message.

Superman should be more like he was in the first two Christopher Reeve movies. He just comes off as an uncaring asshole in this film (as well as Man of Steel). It's just completely unlikable. I actually side with Lex Luthor, as he has every reason to fear and hate this Superman.

The problem isn't "where's the fun this should be fun why isn't this fun."

The problem is by trying to have gods dressed as clowns navigate serious heavy issues without acknowledging the fact they are literal gods and dressed as clowns, the weight of the issues is eradicated and the literal gods just look like idiots for not being able to solve everything with their godlike powers. So you're left with a situation where the primary characters are laughable, the situation is laughable, and the issues are laughable, but the movie is still trying to take itself dead seriously, and not even in an unintentionally humorous fashion.

One of the big reasons the dark knight worked so well is because alfred was there supporting bruce while telling him how ridiculous the entire batman thing was. So because at least one character was self-aware, the audience was allowed to move past the silly aspects. Furthermore a big theme of TDK was how the silliness would spiral out of control and destroy basically everything bruce was trying to accomplish with said silliness.

Its like poetry

Isn't that only because it opened absolutely everywhere at the same time, instead of being released weeks apart in different parts of the world?
>>

Pretty much.

At the end of the day, Batman is a rich boy who dresses up like a bat and punches clowns. You can't take that too seriously, but this movie tries to, and that's why it fails.

Not to mention ticket presales were pretty big thanks to TFA.

And the holiday weekend.

and the review embargo.
>>
>>67548909
That's probably a factor. It's still an impressive haul though any way you look at it.

So nolan predicted the hilarious failure of snyder and the DCEU.

That damage control rotf
>>

It's not really damage control though.

Did you know that if you add up the opening weekends of all territories, Avengers, AOU, and IM 3 all beat BvS's ww ow.

Literally nothing about BvS's box-office performance so far is impressive. unless you count the weak month it was released in.
