Why didn't Ned take the fifth amendment?

because there is no westeros bill of rights

King Trump "make westeros great again" the First declared it null and void
>>
For a state that is obviously part of worldwide international trade for a long time and as such is at a higher level of development than medieval society, their legal system is strangely lacking.

How would things have played out if Ned was pardoned and sent to The Wall?
>would Rob still lead a rebellion in the north?
>would Stannis and Renly still initiate their own rebellions?
>>
>>67466898
Rob may have made peace with the Lannisters, what those conditions would have been nobody knows, I doubt the Lanisters would allow them to be an independent kingdom but Rob didn't want to separate anyway and only wanted his father and sisters back. Most likely they would still be part of the Kingdom and gave a symbolic force to help fight other realms. But with them out of the picture the North and the Riverlands wouldn't be in open rebellion giving them more time to prepare against Stannis/Renly.
>>
why didn't he trail by combat?
>>
>>67467974
i think his death would have been cemented if he lost the trail and he thought he was going to the wall and in the books his greatest regret while rotting in the dungeon is not telling Jon about his mother so its a win-win for him

The old world was actually surprisingly connected through trade. Romans traded indirectly with the Chinese and both empires were aware that the other existed through mutual trade partners.

That said, Westeros is strangely advanced in certain while others are retardedly backwards. For example, while the realm is incredibly large and interconnected through trade and equally connected to the outside world, it's biggest road is still little more than a dirt track.

>For example, while the realm is incredibly large and interconnected through trade and equally connected to the outside world, it's biggest road is still little more than a dirt track.

That would be explained by the fact that they have been at "peace" and united for less than 300 years, before that they were basically a group of houses fighting each other every couple of generations. Valyria on the other hand was the true empire, that build roads, cities and created science and magic and study them.

He was in no shape to fight himself and had no loyal men left to fight for him. Besides, he was supposed to be allowed to take the Black and only Joffrey's dickholery resulted in him being executed.
>>
>>67469213
That doesn't explain anything, because there's no way for them to be or stay united.
>>
>>67467974
All his men were dead, he could barely walk, and he'd have got BTFO by The Mountain or The Hound
>>
>>67467974
He'd already admitted his guilt, he couldn't call for a trial by combat after that, as he'd already judged to be guilty.

The issue is Joffrey/Baelish fucking with his agreed sentence
>>
Its interesting how the War of the Five Kings was literally caused by an edgy little kid. If Ned took the black then the Northerners wouldn't have the casus belli to begin rebellion. Stannis would have been fucked from the start and the Ironborn would of done little more then raid coastal towns.
>>
>>67470871
It was caused by multiple layers of literal cuckoldry and little'finger'
>>
>>67470871
I think Littlefinger was in Joffrey's ear too.

>show kills off the best character 9 episodes in and fails to replace him with an equally interesting /relatable character after five fucking series
>any time they get close, they kill that character off too

1. Eddard
2. Stannis
3. Tywin

Why must they kill all the based characters? It's fucking annoying they get killed while meme tyrion has the thickest plot armor going.
>>
>>67471028
>who is Tyrion?
>>
>>67470622
That's the point. Their union is extremely fragile. Plus can you imagine the cost of the construction and upkeep of a road that spans the length of the entire continent?especially around the Neck and in the North, the elements would tear that road a new arsehole every 3/4 years. They are not that rich.
