And with Scott Derrickson directing, it's painfully obvious that Feige's attempting to make Dr. Strange into a film more shocking and bizzare than Enter the Void or more absurd than John Dies at the End.
A LOT of Doctor strange is strongly a visual experience, so you'd have to look at the ant-man 'microverse' scene and cram that whole notion into the depictions of hell/afterlife in "What Dreams may come" and film version of Constantine did to get a general idea of what kind of eldritch abomination of a mindfuck you're in for.
He's not just "hero name + powerset", just anything that's so tightly focused on him that he has title billing pretty much means a hardcore acid trip is about to go down.

You don't have to like Derrickson as a Director, but Feige is still the producer that Scott has to answer to. It's not going to be a Derrickson wankfest if that's what you're thinking.
With the most popular Doctor Strange comics in memory, the absolute worst you could hope for is something on par with the storytelling of Se7en or the acting range that Tom Hiddleston has displayed so far in the MCU considering that Cumberbatch is also a classicly-trained british actor that already has proven clout in his existing body of work.
And that's still the WORST you could expect considering Feige still headed Iron Man and Winter Soldier as the most grounded films in the MCU thus far.
Just looking at the concept art makes pretty clear that Feige's taking absolutely no chances.
I'd wager my pension, my house and my granddaughter's life on Dr. Strange being heavy enough to not only knock DOFP and Deadpool flat on their asses but make the next Spider-man as a follow-up look completely weak by comparison.

Daredevil season 2 has really strong themeing and actually uses the medium to discuss the nature of justice. It also wears it's influences on it's sleeve and proves that the show runners have great fucking taste. Punisher is basically a cross between the comic character and travis bickle, and the show doesn't moralize like you think it will. Nor does it over indulge in punisher's antics to be edgy, at least 5 episodes in season 2 and I think it's the best thing marvel has ever done. Could get worse from here, but everything so far has been very well done.

Civil war in the comics had a great idea and the buildup with the premise was finely-crafted, but the execution of certain aspects (Like forcing Stark to be a complete fascist shit for no other reason to force people to agree with Cap as the lesser of two dilemmas ) was what made the civil war storyline incredibly polarizing with fans.
Some liked it and some didn't. Some thought it could have been done better in the end and some despised that it happened at all.
The idea with the film adaptation isn't to delver an exact 1:1 perfect imitation, but to better adapt the conceit of the story.
You don't need 30+ characters to convey the underlying idea and it doesn't need to be stretched out into a 12 hour clusterfuck to do it justice.
If you want something that's more like exactly what the comics provided, you'll have to demand marvel's animated division restart EMH and request that they find a way to faithfully cover the civil war story.

That's irrelevant. All that matters about the civil war concept is 2 specific things:
Plot: The characters present in the universe have an ideological divide that pit heroes against heroes.
Business Meta: Marvel wanted an excuse to make heroes fight against heroes.
They fulfilled those two main things and that's it. Anything beyond that is just what you personally have preset expectations of that may go unfulfilled. None of it is promised to you beyond what those 2 things are above. All that matters is that the existing narrative makes sense within the MCU.
Honestly, if you're expecting anything specific beyond that to be fulfilled, they you're already going in with the intent to having your expectations blow up in your face whether positive or negative.
All you can hope for is an outcome that will be emotionally conflicting.
