How are the reviews so mixed? I'd like to say it's because the critics want DC to fail but I'm worried.

Because the first half is really good, but then it becomes a mess because the producers wanted to set up the Justice League movies

Why would critics want DC to fail? What kind of autistic logic justifies such retarded thoughts?

Genuine question.
>>
freelance journo here, i saw it with a bunch of other journos yesterday and every one of us had a different opinion, so i for one can understand why they're so mixed
>>
>>67349283
But that's not true. The movie is almost exclusively focused on Batman and Superman. Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash are practically just mentioned in passing. Even Wonder Woman is barely in the movie until the last 20 minutes. The Dawn of Justice subtitle is actually pretty misleading considering how little the movie does to establish the Justice League. It's almost like that subtitle was thrown on as an afterthought just to remind people that "yes, we have a big team up movie coming out soon, too!"
>>

It's a 9.1/10 on imdb

Yes, because all the fanny flustered DCucks went and rated it a 10 without even seeing it.
>>

People, especially critics, are conditioned to like reddit-tier lighthearted quippy Disney Marvel Saturday morning superhero funtime flicks.

Here's something different, complex and pessimistic and makes you think a little, and like children most of them complain it's no fun, has no jokes, and the good guys are meany-heads.
>>

>>
>>67349580
I have. Doesn't change the fact that compared to the average Marvel film, BvS is complex. Not that it makes it better, but it's a change of pace from the usual fare.
>>
When is the capeshit bubble finally going to burst?
>>
>>67349459
It was at a 9.7 with like 10k votes before the embargo was even lifted lol
>>
>>67349177
I think that maybe the movie looks way too much like a Comic Book, i'm going to watch it today and i expect to like it.
But i can understand why it's getting mixed reviews. I mean, if i show my parents/critics something like Final Crisis, they're going to think it's too confusing and weird, while most DC comic book fans love it.
But if i give them something like Justice League: Origin or any Spider-Man/Deadpool Marvel comic book, maybe, they're going to enjoy it a bit.

I'm not saying DC is too complex for the general public, but it's clear that DC is complicated and maybe Zack Snyder delivers it but Critics and Normies aren't going to like it because it's DC anyway, and DC is not as edible as any marvel comic book.
>>
>>67349536
Children can definitely watch BvS, but I wouldn't say it's for children. I've seen the film and it's pretty dark and depressing. I'd say it's targeted mostly towards an older general audience of comic-book nerds and action movie fans.
>>
>>67349662

This is spot on. I'd say if you're a huge DC fan or even a fan of something like Sin City or Watchmen, you're going to really like this movie. I've seen it and I'm surprised at the low score the critics are giving it, it's way better than how they're portraying it.

>critics want DC to fail
No one is interested in seeing DC fail. Moat of the people who are critical of their films are either people who really like their comics and are mad because they squander these amazing characters on terrible fucking movies and hire complete hacks like Snyder to make them. The other people who are critical are not necessarily fans of the comics, but are movie buffs who are dissapointed that Warner Bros can't get their heads around how to make a good superhero film.
>>
>>67349857
Except Sin City and even Watchmen got far more favourable reviews when they came out.
>>
Just came back from the movie, ask me anything.

In my opinion, it's a good movie. Not amazing, but pretty nice. Except Lex, who is an annoying little cunt. But the trailers ruined it for me, it spoil almost everything, and i'm fucking mad at this, I should've known better.

Because Batman v. Superman is legitimately a clusterfuck?

Man of Steel came out, and they let Snyder do his darker and grittier take on Superman as the first entry into their DC Cinematic Universe. When that movie performed slightly worse than expected and was bashed by critics, Warner Brothers started to panic and scrapped their plans for Man of Steel 2 and a solo Batman film. Instead, they opted to make a Batman/Supes team up movie right out of the gate. When response to this announcement was met with positive, they went all in and decided to call it "Dawn of Justice" and cram in even more shit to make it a direct lead in to a Justice League movie.

The end result of all this was an over bloated mess that tried and failed to juggle multiple comic book arcs, justifying the mistakes made in Man of Steel, and setting up the JL all in one movie.

It's literally the same thing that happened with The Amazing Spider-Man series a few years ago at Sony. Thanks to an incompetent director/writing team and studio meddling, they were trying so hard get their franchise bait jammed into their film that they forgot to make a good movie.

They're in such a rush to get that Marvel money, but don't have a solid plan or formula. They have no idea what they're doing/should be doing with this franchise. They are whinging it and boy oh boy does their lack of any concrete direction show.

Reviewers are paid by Marvel/Disney.

It's no worse than the crap marvel studios puts out but the reviews suggest it's one of the worst things to hit theaters in recent years.

Age of Ultron was fucking garbage, for example, yet that seems to have a 75% fresh rating on RT. Iron Man 2, which is actually one of the worst capeshit movies ever made, has a RT score of 72%!

I can only come to the conclusion that edgy teens and manchildren can enjoy this for the mindless spectacle it inevitably brings to the table.

It has nothing to offer most movie goers and satisfies only the most base desires in a movie.

I think Zack Snyder shouldve become a cinematographer instead of a director. He knows how to frame a shot but when it comes to narrative his movies are held together by bits of string.

>>
>>67350590
>Reviewers are paid by Marvel/Disney.

Poor logic. In pay for play schemes, you buy good reviews. In attempting to buy bad reviews, you open yourself up to paid-for bad reviews in turn and then nobody's getting good press. But the funny thing about film reviewers, at least the ones employed by the papers and magazines - can't speak so much for the bloggers, is they tend to be very ethical journalists - they don't even like to have their tickets paid for to attend screenings, let alone receive any sort of compensation from the party they're reviewing. It's the kind of thing that gets you fired and blackballed.
>>
>>67353089
they don't even have to buy them. these critics are a joke. they're good as long as their opinion corresponded with the popular opinion. they have absolutely no taste and have nothing to say.
>>
>>67349506

I'm so sick of this argument. So sick of it.

The Nolan movies were tonally dark and serious, and with the exception of DKR, loved by both critics and audiences.

The issue isn't that BvS tried something different, it's that it tried something different and failed miserably, in the exact same way MoS did.

Virtually no one wants a tonally dark Superman, and now we get it fucking twice. On top of that, they're immediately making The World's Greatest Detective look like a chest pounding retard who gets worked into fighting Supes, and they're forcing a shitload of world building in when they don't realize that if they built to it Marvel style, they'd have been poised to strike with a JL movie post the Infinity War payoff when Marvel would have to start the cycle over again.

Denial and damage control all you want, but if you didn't fucking see this coming from the way that the trailers worked out (as in WB had no fucking clue how to sell this movie) you're an actual moron who is too far up his ass with his own pathetic fanboyism.

honestly, why take Frank Miler's version of the DCU to the screen? That shit worked because it was a short, closed story with context. Everything else he's done was awful. Zack Snyder is too afraid to look dumb with his capeshit, so he further ruins it by going "MUH IM AN ADULT!".

Seriously do not understand why he's envolved.Christopher Nolan, David Ayer, Patty Jenkins, all of these are fine and talented - but they trust the guy with the 3 consecutive flops, hated by the critics and clearly talented only to directed music videos for their biggest project.

Warner deserves to get fucked, imo

>Virtually no one wants a tonally dark Superman
Also, note that while Nolan's films were very dark they were still filled with color. And this is important because a movie that is only dark all the time is visually boring and won't engage audiences.

Snyder, however, does not know how to make something that's dark without stripping away all colors and desaturating the picture in an attempt to make it more realistic, because as we all know the only colors that do exist in the real world are black, grey and brown.

So not only was it a mistake to make a dark Superman film, but Snyder was literally the worst person they could have choosen to do that.

Yeah okay. This reads like flat-Earth logic.

So DC is making a 'rival cinematic universe' about 5 years too late since Marvel has been throwing about every movie they can possibly make at us.

The Avengers is already over and most probably agree that Age of Ultron was mediocre. Plus, even if DC is successful, Marvel capeshit will ALWAYS have a massive built-in audience.

It's not like market share where someone buys a can of Coke instead of Pepsi. The two companies offer very different characters, and guess what? You can watch fucking both.

DC Universe being successful just means more great capeshit for everyone. Even better if it's a different tone or approach than Marvel's Disney shit.

I have a question for this thread, since I'm not very familiar with how RT works. That screenshot shows that the average rating of BvS is currently 5.4, which exceeds Daredevil's 5.2, yet the Freshmeter is lower.

I know that's because the Big Number is strictly based on a binary Good/Bad count, so my question is: wouldn't that make the ratings very swingy?

If a movie is a 6.5/10 genuinely, so most of the critics rate it there, it could easily get a 75% like Age of Ultron, even if everyone barely tipped over the Fresh line. If BvS was genuinely a 5.5, it could drop to the 40% it stands at now.

Does RT weight this at all? Do statisticians really think this is the best way to rate the quality of things? Do companies care?

It's almost a done deal for DCA, which is getting it because they want to plant the seeds for a future Marvel Land at a low cost because the current head of the Parks division is some guy named Bob Chapek from Consumer Products that invented the Disney Vault marketing scheme that really wants Marvel stuff ASAP, but is unwilling to put Star Wars Land-level money behind it because between the expense of those projects and the money sink that has been building Shanghai (which has had tons of construction issues and delays. Like it's all hands on deck now just to get it finished with American parks getting tons of budget cuts), they can't do the full plan yet (which also would involve a Cap coaster)

It became a bicoastal thing because doing these things in pairs is cheaper and Guardians is the only MCU film Disney can even use in Florida. But Disney World's management is super stingy with money, plus with all the work going on in Hollywood Studios, they can't really afford to have Tower of Terror down for several months to put this shit in and the head of WDW's insisting on a simpler and cheaper temporary overlay if it goes in at all.

Guy who leaked this information has very good sources and previously leaked the whole "Diagon Alley at Universal with a train connecting the two parks" and other stuff, so this is a serious thing that's being considered.

Some excerpts:

>Holly plays Senator Finch (a Democrat from Kentucky, which is the least believable thing in the film), doing the only thing Senators do in superhero movies, and honestly, her dialogue in Raising Arizona was less absurd. “I grew up on a farm—I know how to wrestle a pig,” is one thing she says; “Take a bucket of warm piss and call it Granny’s Peach Tea” is, incredibly, another. (That one gets a callback.) I would describe her demeanor as she says these things as serenely bemused. Likewise Jeremy Irons as Alfred, who mostly just drinks and sighs, which I suppose makes him the audience surrogate, content in the fact that at least he doesn’t have any scenes with Lex Luthor.

>Lois Lane says stuff like, “I’m not a lady, I’m a journalist” and has stuff said to her like, “[In the men’s bathroom] You know, with balls like this, you belong in here.”

>Oof, Lex Luthor is a drag. Jesse Eisenberg preens and over-enunciates and waxes crazily pedantic, like no one told him he’s not in a Sorkin movie anymore; his method of conveying Brilliant Insanity is to make as though he just ingested touring funk band quantities of cocaine.

Do you pee? You will.

Why the FUCK does Batman kill people en masse? I'm not even opposed to Batman killing people on occasion, but from what it sounds like he just flat out murders scores of people with miniguns.

and I was thinking there'd be an interesting moral quandary where Batman had to break his one rule because the potential threat of Superman outweighed any sense of personal morality. From what it sounds like, Batman's killing of people isn't even presented as something outlandish, something caused by the stress and despair he's in. Alfred, who's questioning Batman throughout the movie, doesn't even care that Batman is murdering people left and right.

tl;dr Snyder is a Hack who doesn't understand any of these characters
