Why do you think a wall like trump's would work when history has proven over and over that walls like this are an expansive waste of time and resources better spent elsewhere? And the comparison to the Israeli wall is flawed in so many ways. Israel is a small country that devotes basically all of it's military to manning the wall Their wall is on a much smaller scale than the one proposed by Trump. On a larger level, a wall of the size Trump is proposing would be far too large to work any better than the current wall (forgot we had that one?), because people can:
1. Go over it, since we cannot patrol the whole thing
2. Go under it, since we cannot patrol the whole thing
3. Go through it, because it's just rebar and cement, fairly easy materials to work through, especially if you're dedicated.
4. Go around it. People have been getting smuggled in on boats for decades. How would a wall on the land stop that?
5. Pass through it, the way most people enter illegally right now: at border crossings, with false paperwork or stashed in the back of a vehicle.
The wall in Israel only works because the Israelis have a fairly small wall in comparison to the one Trump is proposing, that has few ways in by sea and is heavily manned by most of the Israeli army. Now, if you want the vast majority of our army holed up along the border of Arizona, California, and Texas, as opposed to doing their jobs as needed and called upon by our allies around the world, so be it. But that still doesn't solve the problem as a whole, and would consume a huge portion of our GDP just to keep the wall maintained and manned.
Trump's wall gets compared to the Berlin Wall too often. That's a bad comparison,. because the Berlin Wall actually worked, for the same reasons as the Israeli one. The better comparison is to the Maginot Line in World War 2, that cost most of the French military budget and required all their available soldiers to man, that the Germans just walked around.
