it's Ip Man. All you have now are the Bruce Lee movies.

i can't be the only one who finds these movies overrated as fuck. at least the first one is. sure, the choreography is great, but the main character was fucking boring, and he was an unstoppable badass who trounced the main villain with zero effort.

I've always found this movie entertaining and quite charming. I wouldn't claim it to be the best, but I really appreciate what they aimed to create.

Kung Pow is a masterpiece not only for kung-fu cinema, but for cinema as a whole
>>
>>67292701
>and he was an unstoppable badass who trounced the main villain with zero effort

Which actually happened IRL.

The fight between Ip Man and the 10 Japanese and the fight between their Commander did actually happen IRL.

He really did kick the shit out of them.

In terms of actual quality cinema, the best I've seen is probably Duel to the Death.
>>

ok, it was a true story, doesnt make it entertaining.

i'd rather there be actual conflict.
>>
Obviously Kung Pow.
>>

You have a strange view of entertainment if you don't think a fight between 1 Kung-Fu Mater and 10 Tae Kwon Do fighters isn't entertaining.

Kung Fury is 80s Nostalgia for kids too young to remember the 80s. The music video was far better than the movie.

Kung Pow is decent, but come on, it has nothing on the masterpiece that is Kung Fu Hustle.
>>
Lone Wolf and Cub is bretty gud, so that.
>>
>>67293215
>OP said no wuxia though.

Wuxia - which literally means "martial hero", is a genre of Chinese fiction concerning the adventures of martial artists in ancient China.

So we can't post anything ITT then, right?

yup. it crosses a lot of genres, and actually references a lot of different movies both eastern and western, and on top of that the character acting is great, the villains are amazing, the character development is quite astounding, and the graphics are only bad at that one road runner scenes, but sadly the scene before that, i was laughing so hard i was crying, and i was crying so hard i was choking, and at some point as i was in the theater i really had medical concerns for my health i was laughing so hard.

it's a VERY self aware movie, that asides from the kung fu soccer and basketball, acting, cooking movies like it, is simply both a parody and in some was supreme master many other types of movies in the genre.

to see crouching tiger hidden dragon, which just had a sequel pop up in netflix, and not think it's campy, but even still WIN ACADEMY AWARDS FOR, as not campy, only shows how people don't really see these kung fu movies as ridiculous as they are, so why stop there.

So for over the top action, with great gimmicks, great characters, good set design, and unstoppable action and comedy, this thing references it's origins, while still being innovative.

it's new, yet powerful. provokes emotions.

i dunno, it's just really well rounded, and seems to be the pinnacle of what KUNG-FU MOVIES ARE.

>tl;dr it's just really well rounded, and seems to be the pinnacle of what KUNG-FU MOVIES ARE.

Yet to see someone top it since, i mean it even references kubricks movies, in what could be a parody but comes off as sincere homages.

Tony Jaa had sick moves and a great stunt team backing him up. Ong Bak is still a kickass demo reel-made-movie, but unfortunately they can't put him in a film worth a shit.

Tom Yum Goong had some great moves in it, but was a mess of a film and the pacing is pretty shitty even within the fights itself. Ong Bak 2 has a few good fights but again, the film is a mess. It's a damn shame because Jaa has legit skills and deserved much better.

Ninja 2: Shadow of a Tear is badass and easily one of the best MA films to come out in recent years. Yeah, it's cheesy as fuck and still has that "straight to DVD" feelings, but Scott Adkins is awesome as usual and the fights are great. So many awesome kicks thrown in that movie.

Adkins is way too much of a pretty boy for the role, though. The only time he comes across as a halfway decent actor is when he's Boyka in Undisputed. Otherwise he looks like a gay porn star, sorry Scott. Awesome kicks though.

This.

The author Gu Long wrote many interesting Kung Fu novels. But this is the most faithful adaptation. Most of his other novels also also adapted, but they are unfaithful to the original so I don't recommend them.

I don't think Master of the Flying Guillotine is that great in terms of the fights, but it's absolutely a classic that everyone should watch at least once. And the fights aren't bad, just not top 10 material.

I think it was pretty neat the Ipman 2 had the villain being a westerner, and showed that while people might not think of Boxing as a "martial art", that it's still extremely dangerous

This.

What makes Jackie Chan movies so great is that he's not invincible he gets fucked up and is at a disadvantage, plus he uses his environment.

His comedic timing and facial expressions just add to it all. There's real charm to it.

by the way. That stunt of sliding down a metal pole covered in lights down 4 floors and crashing into a kiosk on the ground floor?

He did it for fucking real. One take, no rehearsal, no wirework. He got second degree burns on his hands from the lights, dislocated his pelvis, and almost fractured his 7th and 8th vertebrae.

Fucking crazy.
