Why is The Simpsons season 1 so terrible?
>>67274007
Because what came after colours your perception of it. It was groundbreaking and fresh when it was new.
>>67274007
The Simpsons were never good.
>>67274007
>mfw bought the season 1 box set when it first came out when they were $100

>>67274112
>tfw the first set didn't even have commentary for every episode

Dumb frogposter.

I remember when they changed Smithers from a black character to a white one. That truly was a blow for diversity and representation on TV.
It's not terrible, it's just that there's a big step up to season 2
then a bit smaller one to season 3, and even smaller to S4
you get where i'm going with this

This guy!

Kangaroo land.
Why did they turn Homer into a complete idiot?
In the early episodes he is more naive and ignorant, and didn't want to be embarrassed by his family.
The characters actually had more depth in season 1 but become diluted as time went on and they needed more jokes.

>diversity
I'm on to you
>>67274479
They changed the judge so that makes up for it.
>>67274362
Here in the good old USA, there are commentaries on every episode for every season.
>>67274813
that's in the later series, he's still good in 2-4 I'd say

>being gay AND black is too much for the world to handle

Went from Irish to Black, not much of a difference.
lol i haven't watched season 1 in sooo long...what are the standout moments, /tv/?
>>67274007
It wasn't, if you grew up on Brady Bunch and the Cosby Show.
I like Season One as a memo, but it was clunky to re-watch.
Felt like they released early draft material, not finished episodes.
I draw in my spare time so I kind of have a soft spot for the crude animation.

Cashies m8; got S3 to S8 or so on dvd with only the Michael Jackson episode not playing properly (90% my poor care of the disc though) and i never really liked it anyway.
S3-S4 has the most comfy commentary tracks, Al Jean and Mike Reiss are pretty amazing writers and good at explaining stuff.

*as a memory

Nothing is fully formed, the characters are still in a gestation phase.
Also, Matt Groening has a writing credit or two on S1 episodes. As far as I know, these are his only writing credits in the series.
>>67278475
>Simpsons commentaries
>every episode that's written by John Swartzwelder, they talk about how they invited him to talk about the episode
>he's never done a commentary
>>67275786
You get an explanation on why Homer is the safety inspector or how he became safety inspector.
>>67274479
When I was a kid and I saw the episode where Smithers is black, I thought they had ran out of the color yellow.
