What has been the most creative film storytelling-wise in the past decade? Something that might not push the medium forward but has a clever or unique storytelling devices
> past decade
> post a 16 year old film
literally die
>>67254625
it is an example of the type of film I mentioned though, faggot.
>>67254287
This movie was clever in that it plays like his short term memories. I can't remember a goddamn thing that happens throughout.
Deadpool
Russian Ark.

The Pest(1997)

> I can't remember a goddamn thing that happens throughout.
Has a dual screen film ever been done before? Like two separate stories side by side that are unified in some way?
>>67254287
Enter the Void
The Tree of Life
Upstream Color
>>67255163
I don't think it's been done for the entire runtime of a film, but Brian De Palma did tons of interesting things with split-screen editing
The technique was also heavily used on the second season of "Fargo"
>>67254625
i was going to say eternal sunshine but that shit's 12 years old now
where does the time go
>>67255163
There was some movie like that called Timecode. I think. And
>>67255208
>Enter the Void
Nice concept executed excruciatingly poorly. I'm probably never going to bother watching another film by that director ever again due to how heavy-handed every single aspect of that fucking film was. It's literally DUDE I JUST TRIPPED ON ACID: The Flick.
>>67255241
fucking episode 9, man
yes i've read all the shit about post-modern literature but it was still stupid as shit, should have left it alluded to but not seen
>>67255282
I was going to say "And (something else") but I couldn't think of another one after all.
>>67255316
Episode 10 sucked too.
Has a choose your adventure ever been done in film?
>>67254287
Kind of cheating, but Funny Games US.
>>67255486
No, because at that point it would literally become a video game.
>>67255486
No but it'd make a nice novelty thing
>>67255800
by definition it wouldn't be a film anymore, though
>>67254287
The Truman Show is the last creative film I saw but that's almost 20 years old now
>>67255163
The Tracey Fragments (2007) has multiframe storytelling
>adding a gimmick like "going backwards" is "creative"
top pleb opinion
>>67254962
Irony : the post
>>67255871
I'm aware. Just saying it'd be neat
>>67255948
It is though you fucking faggot. At the very least it was executed decently and was never done before.
Nonlinear narratives with subjective POV were creative 60 years ago
>>67255163
3 screens, in fact
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-dWQS8OCPUo
>>67255923
looks like shit and wasn't really what i was talking about.
Lucky Number Slevin
>>67254287
The Man from Earth
Definitely not Memento levels of storytelling innovation but it is there, just subtle.
>>67256109
Warhol did one 50 years ago, Chelsea Girls, but there's no real narrative, if that's what you're after.
Cloud Atlas
Adaptation
Primer
The Infinite Man
Timecrimes/Triangle
short film 'If I Tell You'
INLAND EMPIRE
Predestination
>>67255163
7screens
>>67255268
>Had intense feels first time i watched that movie 9 or so years ago
>Almost 10 years later still have the exact same feelsNever had a GF
>>67255305
He wouldn't want you watching them anyway.
>>67256112
"Pulp Fiction but worse in every way" isn't creative.
>>67255163
conversations with other women. it's pretty good
>>67257150
I'd fucking hope not. Pretentious scum.
>literally naming a stripclub SEX MONEY POWER
WHAT COULD IT MEAN?????!!!!!!11
>>67257285
this is the only real answer. it's single frame whenever the 2 leads are together and split frame whenever the two leads are apart
>>67257368
You should go for a walk or something. Maybe to a strip club.
>>67255163
i think Oceans 11 did a little bit of that
>>67256862
the fuck
It's Such a Beautiful Day is somewhat unconventional and nonlinear i guess
>>67257526
Was probably a shitty flick though, was specially created to be only shown at cannes for a few days. In a special Pavillion.
>>67256192
just here to say that The Man From Earth is utter dogshit and a disgrace to even call it a movie.
Only positive thing about it is the intriguing back story, everything else is like something from a very bad B-movie from the 90s. It is the ultimate pleb detector
>>67257795
It is.
Reality by Quentin Dupieux and this early medium length film by him. https://vimeo.com/32146368 Nonfilm
I know you all think its pleb. And hate all you want. But... Birdman was the most creative film I've seen since Bernie. Birdman isn't innovative in any way, but the way it conveys the themes of artists trying to create their art like in 8 1/2 is a creative attempt at giving us a new story that wears its influence on its sleeve yet transcends whats already been done and brings the viewer a truly great film. And Bernie was great, I enjoyed Linklaters take on a fictional documentary and had a great tone and subtle style.
Mr. Nobody tells a story in multiple timelines
>This is the type of person you share a board with
Memento is shit. It is literally, LITERALLY a generic pile of shit with a gimmick thrown on top to trick mouthbreathers into thinking they're watching something "smart".
>>67261767
so, didn't understand the ending? I mean it is kinda unexpected but still shouldn't be too hard to follow.
I am sure you will get it on second dime, rewatch it
