I watched American Beauty yesterday and was amazed at how great a film it was, using only a house and a coupe of working class areas as location.

It must be one of the best films compared to the big budget thrash that we are being bombarded with.

American Beauty cost $15 million to produce while taking $356.3 million at the Box office, most of the $15 million was paid to the actors.

Also Morgan Freeman is a sodomite.

Not him but just lurk here a lot, find the helpful threads like 3x3 ones and get recs. Just keep adding to a list, even if it's a list of directors and not movies. Then you can just start working through them. Here are some fairly popular ones.

Kurosawa, Fellini, Tarkovsky, Bergman, Ozu, Kalatozov, Zulawski, Fassbinder. That should be more than enough to get you into a wide variety. From there, just work through their movies, keep your eyes open for more to add.

The really good films are liked here

How is that a bad thing? Do you want this site to be a hugbox like reddit?
>>
>>67242974
Being so insecure that you have to classify films in accordance to a rating system literally no one else on Earth uses outside of this board is not very patrician of you, anon.

Not enjoying a film because of what someone on /tv/ would class it as is the sign of a turbopleb.
>>
>>67246226
its not a bad thing at all, its actually why i respect /tv/
>>
>>67246262
thats just what a reddit pleb would write
>>
>>67246179
>>67246226
/tv/ respects those films because they are truly great and not appreciated by the unwashed masses, which is why they are "obscure" in the first place.
Also what the other guy said is right, I rather want an elitist bunch of assholes with refined taste than a circlejerk where mediocrity is hailed as true greatness like reddit

Besides, did you realize that /tv/ wasn't one person? And that everybody had their opinions? Seriously, all the people who criticize reddit talk are idiots or redditards, when you lurked this site for more than 1 year, it's SO fucking evident to see through the people who come there to actually talk about film and the people who come in just to push their dumb opinion, "opinion" because they all share the same

Shawshank being #1 on IMDB actually has a funny story behind it. When The Dark Knight came out, its fans tried to get it to #1 on the top 250 by vote-brigading The Godfather. Up until 2008, the Godfather had been #1 on the list for a decade. The TDK brigade succeeded in bumping The Godfather down, giving Shawshank the #1 spot it's held ever since.

a pleb that dislike a mvie will say it was boring, a patrician can pinpoint which shortcomings of the movie left him unaffected

It shows Red and Andy embracing infront of an immersurable vast ocean....

It's beautiful....

Two tortured souls finally get to be companions in complete freedom--yes they are old convicts, but they have lots of money and they have their friendship.

Ever see two old men playing chess? Chances are they have been friends for an entire life time--something becoming less and less common today...
