Then they would eventually turn into a regular zombie (completely unable to sprint) after 24 hours

The book? Fucking awesome. The movie? Action flick trash.
The Girl With All The Gifts is coming out this year. But you should really read the book first, it's great and doesn't feel long at all.
The 'twist' (I say that but it's revealed in the first few chapters) is that Melanie is half 'hungry' half human. She's got a genius level IQ but also feels the cravings for human flesh. The ending is great.
