>The Terminator is damaged and wears a pair of sunglasses to hide his inhumanity

>Terminator 2
>The Terminator decides to wear sunglasses at night to look "cool"

This is why T1 > T2
>>
The sole way T2 is better is special effects. Everything else about T1 is better.

Tech Noir is the GOAT Terminator scene, but the film is full of them.

>>
to be fair, he does look pretty cool.
>>
The first Terminator is better because he actually TERMINATES people.
>>
Both good. T1 as a thriller and T2 as an action movie.

My nigga!
>>
It's because the first Terminator portrays the futuristic technology as inherently evil, as something broken or imperfect that has to hide its imperfections to fool people until it unleashes its apocalyptic nature.

In the 2nd Terminator, the Terminator has become a tool that co-operates with humans, thus accepting their fashion etiquettes and trying to be physically appealing for the sake of being physically appealing.
Technology has now transcended the naive mistrust it had been plagued with, it is now a great asset to our experience.

It's amazing that three attempts at following the Terminator films just did not fucking understand the first two at all.

They focused on the backstory and the "look at the cool robots!" as the plot as if they asked a bunch of 10 year olds what they liked most about T2.

Hey, did anyone marathon the new Terminator film with Genesis? It was so cool, there was a man who was all robots, and Arnie went time travelling. Best one in the series if we are to be honest, members of my family

Pic related: Arnie fights a cool robot
>>
I want a sequel that takes place almost entirely in the future following the humans vs Skynet. Still make time travel a component, but only a small one.
>>
>>67175540
>They focused on the backstory
Is it too much to ask for a badass terminator movie set after judgement day?
>>
>>67175745
T4 was alright. I was hoping for a sequel to follow that, but I guess it didn't perform well enough. The TV show was also good as well.
>>
>>67175745
Apparently. Though at this point it wouldn't be the same without the synth tracks and lasers. Salvation dropped the ball. Directors have egos too big to seamlessly continue someone else's vision.

That movie should have been made in the 80s, using practical effects and proper sets. That's why the flashbacks in T1 and T2 are so damn amazing.
CGI won't give it enough grit, see; everything after T2.
>>
i just watched genisys the other day. thought it would be the worst film i ever saw, but honestly the first hour was fun as fuck. after that... well never mind what happened next, the first hour was okay, which is about 10 levels better than i expected.

salvation will always be the worst entry in the series by far.

T1>T2>T3>Genisys>Salvation
>>
>>67175636

Also the practicality of Reese and the T 101. It's fascinating watching them assemble what they need after arriving in our time completely naked and with nothing
>>
>>67175689
>they made Terminator movies after 2
Don't remind me.

Are they fucking dine yet BTW?
>>
>>67175636
Yes, and scarier as you don't know what you're dealing with. The very fact that we've had terminators in the popular culture for 30 years now means they just can't have the same effect they had in the first two films.

Also, the first two films DID rely on special effects, but that was in a time when effects could still blow minds as we were in the era where CGI was either non-existant or just getting started.

No one is truly blown away by visual effects any with the very odd exception like mad max
>>
>>67175313
In T2 the glasses represent the T-800s detachement from humanity. Removing the eyes makes him easier to be seen as a killer, leading up to the misdirection that he is there to kill John. The T-800 for most of T2 is without them, he loses the glasses when he is shown by John that he doesn't have to kill and indangers the mission to save another life.
I think their usage in T2 is very well done.
>>
Yeah one of the reasons the first two movies are so much better is because the evil terminators are scary as fuck nightmare fuel, Arnold because he was an unstoppable killing machine and the T1000 because he was so fucking creepy and unsettling. None of the later movies managed to come even close to that since they all tried and failed to copy either Arnold or T1000 instead of coming up with something new.

Cast him.
>>
>>67176075
>yfw they actually had to tell him to run slower because he caught up with the kid on the bike the first time filming it
>>
>>67175636
The first movie since it's basically a slasher film did rely on the unstoppable cold killing robot, but what keeps you invested is the relationship between Reese and Sarah Connor, and that you actually care about the characters. What really carries the second movie is both Sarah's PTSD, and seeing how the Terminator bonds with John; at the end everyone is an actual character we give a shit about and can get invested in the movie, unlike in the newer pieces of shit.
>>
>>67175313
It is better but T2 is not far behind.
>>
>>67176075

It would still feel like a worse copy of Robert Patric who was literally perfect as the T1000. They need to come up with a brand new concept for a scary terminator.
>>
>>67176271
Should of manned up and stopped being a pussy
>>
>>67176318
> They need to come up with a brand new concept for a scary terminator.

Problem with that is that the T-1000 is the best you can do. All you can do is give it bullshit powers like being able to hack wi-fi and shit. If you make it not liquid then you're making it easier to destroy.
>>
>>67176407
I'm not talking about new powers specifically, but it needs to be scary in a new way. No idea how though.
>>
>>67176514
What if we just put them both on a boat? No running and hiding across a city, but you're stuck with the terminator on a cruise ship or some shit, having to keep terminator from sinking the entire ship when it gets tired of trying to find its target.
>>
>>67176514
There can be scary ideas but their power level would be too much for plot. Basically monster gets his way no possible opposition. It needs balance between scariness and weakness.

The reason the T1000 was scary had nothing o do with his morph powers, but the way he was played. The scariness of a terminator doesn't necessarily have to be related to how powerful it is.

I like the Terminator 2 for nostalgia reasons, but for me the original Terminator is the best. It's a technoir horror movie where there's no happy ending. There's no "fun" in it. The Terminator is cold, efficient, and has zero remorse for humanity. Also los Angeles in the first film is all dark and gritty.

The first film is a mixture of romance, action, science-fiction and slasher, perfectly blending them all together, you can't go up from there, which is why T2 is more action focused than anything, some interesting info about what Sarah had to go through after the events of the first film, but nothing to significantly deem it better than the first film, if anything John Connor ruined it with his emo haircut and badboy attitude suddenly telling Arnold that killing people is bad
>>
There is not a single way in which T1 is better than T2. NOT A SINGLE ONE.
>>
>>67175849
I thought Genesis was terrible, you couldn't have ruined Sarah Connor more.
>cast baby-faced literally who people know from some series
>cast a guy that has a permanent ''DURR'' expression
>completely scrap Sarah's development into actually becoming a bad-ass just so she can be better than Reese and not need his protection
>0 thought put into their plan, they just blow shit up and hope Judgement Day doesn't happen
>Arnold turns into a T-1000 at the end because

it changes year to year and decade to decade, and different parts of the country are very different-- in the southeast Coke is so big they call other carbonated drinks "coke" because it's considered the default

T1 vs. T2 is a stupid fight because you can't have Sarah Connor's full character development without both of them (and the scenes with that one psychologist don't work as well), and T1 gives the T2 terminator something to top, and the full differences between the terminators aren't evident without seeing both of them in their element. I'm sure there are more things you can't appreciate fully without both. Yes the retcon by omission about the rules of time travel is kind of dumb but the rules were never really explained (yes I know they were explained in the rough drafts, it's not in the movie) so it's just left as a quirk with no reason for being. Now T3, there's some character development there but it skewed the genre again and made the series double back on its change in philosophy and it just... didn't resonate as well, so it's inferior.

That made the setting seem familiar rather then dystopian. I remember at the time, the fact that John lived a relatively normal suburban middle-class life made it hit closer to home for me as a kid around the same age as him. Cameron brought the harsh reality of T1 into the safe space of malls and suburbia--everything that comes off as commercial and sterile was so because that's what life was like for the audience at the time. It was about making people feel uncomfortable seeing a fucking killing machine try to murder a boy in in soccer mom country.

I think that may be lost on people watching it decades later.

Haven't seen gensys or whatever the fuck you call it but how was the Korean guy as the T1000? He was the only part of the trailer that looked good.

Fuck off faggot the T2 terminator was built with a better AI, it's a learning bot that is taught how to act.
>puts on sunglasses to look cool
No shithead he was adapting to his surroundings, particularly in a bar where the people try to look like tough shits and are complete dumbasses.

Know your shit before you criticize a quality villain.

For future reference, t1 had a T-600 while t2 had a T-800

Why would a robot do that?

>>67175823
Salvation had quite a few great fight scenes and intelligent robot designs. I think it gets way too much criticism, the only part I object to is the terminator having a living heart.
Creating a terminator that wasn't self aware and thought it was human was genius.

whether or not the sequels are better than the originals is a matter of opinion but to say they deserve no respectable mention is either trolling or straight up retarded.

Gonna end this once and for all

>Terminator enter gun shop
>Needs to acquire a primary weapon which will inflict max amount of damage in the range that he operates so he visually scans the rack and selects the 12 Gauge Autoloada
>Terminator parameters now switch to prioritize a secondary more concealable weapon as a backup and notices the .45 Long Slide w/ Laser Sighting (important)
>After completing the inspection of the handgun, the terminator accepts this as a suitable weapon
>At the same time his programming notices the laser sighting. All the files the Terminator has for this time period doesn't suggest that laser sighting should exist yet. And realistically, this was a very new accessory for firearms at the time.
>Terminator processes this information and concludes that since there are little to no records of pre-Judgement Day, there might be a chance to acquire a plasma rifle in this time period. Especially given the fact that laser sighting is present while not being in his internal files.
>Terminator most likely narrows down plasma rifle selection to the earliest iterations. In this sense, the Phased Plasma Rifle in a 40 Watt range could very well be some sort of pre-production prototype that has the earliest data of appearance on Skynets data files, and by extension, the Terminators data files.
>The shop keeper is quick to retort with a snide remark
>Terminator calculates that plasma rifle technology must not exist due to tone and inflection detected in human response
>Now Terminator needs another weapon to fulfill the role of the plasma rifle. It is logical to conclude that it was needed for supression/automatic fire.
>For this reason, his programming looks for something in the shop that will fulfill the tactical purpose of the plasma rifle. Finds the Oozie Nein Mehlehmeeta and decides to use this in its place.
>After inspection of all firearms are concluded and all firearm roles have been filled, it is time to dispose of the shop keeper.

> metal can't travel thru time
