>Le 19 year old cinema expert starter pack

>shit wouldn't work
like sully said
>>67134787
Nothing in that article says that Shane wants to remake Primer
>he will never make A Topiary
>will arnett
literally JUST

Maybe if The Modern Ocean was a big hit.
>>67135152
When is that supposed to come out?
>>67135173
No news since late last year so no one knows.
>>67135082
Never heard of it
>>67135212
Damn. Hoping for a 2017 release
>>67135298
Great script by Carruth, never got funded
>>67135319
>great script
A script that David Fincher, Steven Soderbergh, and Rian Johnson said was the best script they ever read.
>>67135298
A script by the same dude and is considered by a few directors and many to be one of the best scripts ever
>>67135351
I'm surprised none of them helped fund it
>>67135351
how can he not get funding? he's made a relative shit ton on a 7k and 50k budget
>>67135136
His trailer is hitched to Netflix. He'll do fine.
>>67135319
>>67135351
How can you tell if a screenplay is good or not? I'm trying to get into screenwriting and was curious how one can tell if it's shit or not
>>67135378
They went to studios and no one was willing to put up the money. I doubt Shane would've taken the money as he's even against crowdfunding. Yeah those are rich but do they have 20 million minimum to just give Shane?
>>67135397
Shane said he could make it for 20 million minimum and that was with him doing all the CGI, which he taught himself.
>>67135447
That sucks. Even Nolan's company Syncopy or whatever seems like the company that would fund it
>>67135479
Well it wasn't exactly commercial and at times seems borderline unfilmable.
Pic related.
>>67135378
They signed on as producers but...
>>67135397
He wanted 20 million for A Topiary, and all he'd made at the time was Primer. On top of that, it's incredibly ambitious, something that would very likely fall flat on the casual movie goer. Thirdly, Carruth wanted 100% control; over story, over cgi, etc. It makes sense why if you read the script, but it seems anyone interested in funding loved the story, but was way to scared they wouldn't see any money back
>>67135426
To be honest, I don't know if it's so much the screenplay is great, or the story itself. The script itself is like 245 pages long and full of descriptions because many items in the story don't exist in real life. It's basically a lesson on "how to write a script that will scare off funding". That being said, it is a very specific one; for describing things that don't exist, it does a tremendous and detailed job.
>>67135547
Damn that is crazy. Kind 2001 imagery. I can see why stupid execs were scared
I've been working my way through the A Topiary script. Has anyone else? I LOVED the first story, it was original and riveting and thought provoking. I'm only a little way through the second story, and it's interesting for sure, but more slowly moving, and with a lot more to keep track of, between all the parts of "technology" and all the characters. Does the story stay at high quality? Does anyone else feel if the movie is made, the first part is vital to the feel and theme of the movie?
>>67135689
I read the first story a while back and loved it. I made a decision to not read the 2nd half in case Shane ever makes it. I'd like to experience it in the theater as it was meant to be experienced.

>>67135689
Haven't got to read out but have it
>>67134822
>Tfw people below the age of 30 who haven't seen at least 10,000 movies try to give their opinion on the craft
Literally like a part time retail shit kicker telling the area manager how to improve the business.
>>67135969
>responding to the internet equivalent of a 35 year old shitty vhs rental store clerk who thinks he's an expert when he spent the last 20 years getting high and not amounting to shit
On the other hand, you guys love Red Letter Media so maybe- ah, fuck it.
