What did you think?I thought it would have been much better if it had no association with Cloverfield. The association killed it. The whole movie I was at the edge of my seat wondering if Howard was telling the truth, but in the back of my mind I knew what would likely be true. Also, the ending was meh.
>Went in thinking it was going to be 2 hours of hiding in a bunker from Clovie and the Lice Bros.
>Turns out it was a prequel to Bio-Metal

I thought the ending wasthe most satisfying ending in a long while. Leaving the ending completely unexplained would have been lazy, and boring. There are still many questions left about the story, but the character's story was completed. Without having Michelle go to Houston her character arch would have been left unfulfilled, and the rest of the movie would have been build-up to nothing.

I agree, while i think she was able to pull off some inhuman shit there, if they had ended it without closure to the setting i probably would have been a bit annoyed
Is the relation to clovefield basically this happening there while the Giant monster was attacking manhattan?

8 years later, alternate universe
Howard did nothing wrong
Don't care to see it. Hype was real the night the trailer was released but after finding out what the movie really was, I just can't help but see it as a cash grab and an exploitation of those of us who have been waiting for a cloverfield sequel.
>>67122573
There's some Steins;Gate shit going down. It's the same universe, but a different timeline in it where Tagruato's satellite shenanigans result in a different monster attack in Louisiana as opposed to Clover in NYC.

reddit get out
I think this movie had an amazing premise but the end reveal killed it. I'm not saying it shouldn't have an ending climax but the truth should have been left ambiguous
>>67122671
what the fuck was the point in this flick then

>>67122671I was disappointed when I saw this everywhere online. I was hoping it would be like Howard said. And that there would be a cloverfield like monster in every major city (take out the big cities in a blast), then phase 2 is going around killing individual survivors, like the ship you see in the final 10 minutes.

reddit reddit reddit - yeah, I SAID IT
>>67122939
There is no point. It's like the Twilight Zone. They're just setting up an anthology where they can have monsters of the week.
>>67122883
Please don't ever compare this garbage to Steins gate. Thanks.
>>67122671
if it's in an alternate universe why the 8 years part matter
wtf was up with the letterbox

2.35:1
Did you see it IMAX or something?
Saw it in iMax. Kinda pointless as far as that goes, but a fantastic movie. My favorite I've seen this year.
>>67121676
Completely agreed. Here's the original ending:
>Michelle escapes the shelter and is chased through the farmhouse by Howard, who still wants to “protect” her. She blinds him with bathroom cleaner, he tells her about his tragic life (dead wife, missing daughter, treacherous Nate, etc.), and then she shoots him in the kneecap and runs away. He ends the movie alive, entreating Michelle to “be careful.” Later, after traveling down empty roads and finding no one around to help her, she crests a hill and sees the Chicago skyline, smoldering and destroyed. No explanation is given. We don’t even know what she will do next, only that she now knows that Howard, for all his oddity, was correct. The final line in the script is, “She slowly pulls down the mask on the hazmat suit before taking a breath.”
While that would have been fine, that's a bit run of the mill and I'm much happier with the ending they ended up with.
>>67120521
i dont how anyone didnt know she would escape. it was in the fucking trailer
>>67123322
Pretty sure OP means the fact that Howard was right about the alien invasion, not that she escaped.
>>67123059
>Steins gate
lol muh hightaste animu!
They're basically setting up Cloverfield as anthology movies that are unrelated and in different worlds, but connected by monster attacks.
>>67123308
i wouldnt call that run of the mill. i thought the ending they went with was pretty standard. and john goodman's character just ended up being a 2 dimensional psycho that happened to be right. no depth or study really given to him. he acts the way you expect him to, no twists involved unless you really dont watch too many crime or psychological thrillers
>>67123395
its hinted at in the trailer though. maybe not the fact it was an alien invasion, but whatever Howard says is out there IS out there. behind a house.
>>67122982
I immediately thought this was the most obvious and sensible thing to assume.
The reason I was still guessing about with the state of up top was because in Cloverfield the had Operation Hatefuck Manhattan.
I figured either there was no nuclear blast and it was aliens or that There were no people because the bomb was dropped and that radiated the air to be a combination of both. in short, this extends past the timeframe of the first movie but begins in the same spot.
I'm not really buying into this 8 years later shit, it feels a bit absurd, I guess it works if it's always related to some alien attack and exploring different scenarios around that premise but still, I'd prefer a cohesive timeline.
>>67123461
Yes and no on his character. I think what he told them was a half truth. I think he did actually have a wife and daughter but they left him because he was becoming increasingly paranoid and obsessed with doomsday scenarios.
After that, the isolation slowly drove him to kidnap that girl and turn her into his surrogate daughter.
I dunno how to do spoiler tags so I'm just going to say I enjoyed it muchly and the final act was utterly engaging.

Oh wait I figured it out.
The reveal of the alien ship, my reaction actually matched hers. Good show.

Same. I thought that was a great moment.

I thought the ending was completely over the top, butI fucking loved it.
Is there a reason all movie posters use that super narrow print? They could just use smaller print to achieve the same horizontal spacing, and it would save on vertical spacing as well as be easier to read. I smell conspiracies.
>>67122466
Yeah, the most sketch thing to me wasblowing up the alien spaceship. But it seems plausible to me, I think that poison gas was defined as explosive. Also, why do people assume the monster stuff was alien?
>>67125353
>Also, why do people assume the monster stuff was alien?
It's otherworldly and alien by definition?
Do you think they're subterranean or something?
>>67125442I mean from outer-space. I assumed that they were the same kind monster as the Cloverfield monster, and they just up and decided to attack humanity, but I don't really care what they are.
>>67123429
I hope demons are next
>>67125591
they are in flying ships. I don't think they're local.
>>67125591
I figured they were probably from outer space. I don't see why it needs to be directly connected to the original Cloverfield since it's going to be an anthology series.
>>67125591
Cloverfield is an alien too.
