TV shows rising to prominence
Breaking Bad
House of Cards
True Detective
Mad Men

as far as film, capeshit will be remembered as the cancer, like horror B movies from the 50's involving giant insects or whatever.
Particular things that will be remembered:
Birdman
Nolan's entries, especially when you think about how The Dark Knight was the really amazing serious dramatic movie that spun-off the rest of capeshit, starting with things like Iron Man, which was a good movie, but can't compare to TDK. All downhill from there.
Fincher's entries
12 Years a Slave

you know what we still have 4 years to go
>>
>>67116907
Boyhood's already been forgotten and Turin Horse isn't accessible enough to be remembered.
>>
>>67116864
Hopefully not this bag of shit

I would disagree on birdman and 12 years
Neither got forgotten as hard as Boyhood, but they're not exactly on peoples minds at this point. Maybe people will still keep coming back to Birdman for its unique style but 12 years? definitely not

Do you mean the artist 2.0 with the long take gimmick??

No one remembers the superior 00's so the 10's have no chance of ever being remembered.

Drive
Her
The Master
True Detective

TV eclipsing film in terms of reliable quality.

Underappreciated but largely innovated new sci-fi and action films that were only a couple details short of being absolute classics in their respective genres(and will probably go on to be cult classics in their own right), aka:
Pacific Rim
Elysium
Tron Legacy
Chappie
John Carter
Oblivion

And a couple that may have already entered that pantheon:
Mad Max: Fury Road
Edge of Tomorrow

An endless onslaught of shitty capeshit and YA adaptations

The de facto death of the traditional non-capeshit summer action blockbuster

The death of Pixar

Disney getting butthurt about taking risks with adventurous new IP and storytelling formats all because Tron: Legacy and John Carter flopped hard, and turning the rest of their live-action film attention to remaking the same shitty, quippy, ADHD-paced, tension-free, uninspiringly filmed first Avengers movie over again with a new crop of overpowered superheroes each time and a new lame, completely non-threatening bad guy for the bland, focus-grouped reddit/iO9-pandering heroes to have another no-stakes feel-good romp against, destroying the Star Wars universe in the process, all because that shitty "whedon formula movie with assorted superheroes" made over a billion dollars.

John Carter and Elysium?
I can see District 9 becoming a cult classic, but Elysium simply missed that special aspect that sets it apart from other films. Haven't seen Chappie.
John Carter was just plain shit.

In the future, movies will be forgotten.

Only YouTube and online video reviews doing Let'sPlays of new and old games will be seen as the entertainment of this decade that is relevant to future generations.

Elysium to me, will be like the 10's equivalent of The Running Man, a fun, dumb romp with an interesting premise that's basically a physical manifestation of the societal anxieties of its time, but that that does almost nothing with the fascinating world that it builds and chooses instead to be another dumb action sci-fi movie with a unique premise.

Compare that to Robocop, which took a very similar premise and cracks it out of the park.

We forgave The Running Man for that, because of Aaaahhnuld and because those sorts of movies were so common in the late 80's, and Elysium honestly kind of grew on me because it felt like a kind of lovingly made homage to those sorts of dumb flicks with smart settings (Aliens, Running Man, Rollerball, Escape from New York, etc) once you stopped being mad at Blomkamp for the Blade Runner-tier film that it could have been.

We never got our 10's RoboCop, and we probably won't. Dredd could have been it, if they'd had a bit more budget/scope, and if they had dialed up the caustic societal satire that made the comic so great (and made parts of the Stallone movie like the "Recycled Food: It's Great For the Environment, and OK For You" and the flying motorcycle that doesnt work gags tolerable), but instead it ended up on the edge of the cult/classic line.

And you shut your whore mouth about John Carter. It was a far, far better Star Wars movie than TFA was, and in time it should become a cult classic just like the equally-flawed The Black Hole has.
