Is South Park good anymore? I haven't watched it in years.
>>67078526
The last season was pretty good.
>>67078526
The last two years they've started keeping a serial continuity across the seasons and it's certainly made it more interesting. Like the other anon said, last year was pretty good.
>>67078526
It's as good as it ever was unlike the simpsons
They had a whole season where one joke was run into the ground.
>BRAH UR NOT BEING PC BRAH
Then attached a load of convoluted sci-fi shit, the only funny part was City Wok guy and the So-Do-So-Pa stuff.
I know some people like the lore era South Park more, quite frankly I believe these are people who weren't around for the original South Park late 90s boom and judge all the early seasons off Cartman's Anal Probe. I miss the more frequent humour and more simplified animation, it had more charm, season 2-5 was prime South Park.
>>67078613
no it wasn't
>>67078526
It never went shit like the Simpsons did, and the last season's writing was kinda cool, at least it was something different than usual.
>>67078526
No.
It's just Trey and Matt watching TV shows and the news, and attacking whatever's popular to attack.
I hope they tone down the videogame stuff in the next season.
Otherwise very good, this show is only getting better. But that could just be the result of me getting older and beginning to understand what exactly they're poking fun at.
>>67080272
this desu
>>67080272
>attacking whatever's popular to attack
Actually, they just attack whatever's popular to champion. It's the complete opposite of that you said.
Having said that, you're right that the show has just become about "current event/soundbite" and it's been that way for a while now.
Yes. It's still the only good thing on TV other than the Venture Brothers and sports.
It fluctuates, but the last season was pretty good.
The you're getting old/everything sounds like shit episode was fucking brilliant.
It reminds me of that episode they did where they made fun of Family Guy, but instead of the manatees picking out pop culture references, they're picking out topical news and political stories and then just building a whole season around that as a means to get their fucktarded Libertarian I'm-Better-Than-You fence-sitter bullshit into people's faces.
I'd say it's probably worse than The Simpsons or really any other TV show at this point.
>>67080385
Not true. Look at the Donald Trump episode.
And it's all but impossible for them to just tell a good story devoid of any statement for what's going on or anything now.
>>67080594
>simpsons
>ever good
kek
it's been almost unwatchable since season 9 or so
>>67078526
Is the only long running cartoon that hasn't gone to complete shit.
>>67080234
Yes it was
>>67080329
They made Oprah-money off of going gay, going to Broadway, and doing "The Book of Mormon"
So they don't waste much time on the show like they used to, and instead just make the episode the week it's airing after watching some shit cable TV show or the news and making a quick arbitrary decision to parody it.
And it's been that way for too damn long.
Every episode feels like a build up to something hilarious that never happens.
The only reason anyone will say last season wasn't shit is because it panders to them politically.
>>67080594
Sounds like perfect neutral to me.
>>67080234
for 4chan and nobody else
>>67078526
It gets better with age.
>>67080824
That's not true
Reddit also enjoys the new seasons!
>>67078526
Last two seasons were really good.
Started pretty well, then steadily declining then rising up back in quality after the half of season. That's my opinion anyway.
>>67080329
Is that a Bob?
>>67078526
No. It used to be cool when they were young and taking jabs at what was stupid about society, but now they're just old and bitter towards anybody who tries to change anything.
>>67078526
I think it's been consistently funny. They've changed some things but honestly, the series is still what it was from the beginning. The first continuous plot thread was from season 1 to season 2 with the whole "who's Cartman's dad" thing, they made fun of pop culture from the very beginning, I mean Patrick Duffy leg, Kathy Lee Gifford, Tina Yothers, Chef doing that speech from Braveheart etc. all during season 1.
The episode where Terrence and Philip first appeared was Matt and Trey making fun of themselves and their critics and that was like the sixth episode over all.
It's the same it ever was.
>>67080700
You're kinda right. Matt and Trey are busy doing other things, and at this point South Park is something they do just for fun and expression and easy money.
They only work on the show for like 3 months of the year then they are free to do whatever they want for the rest of the year. And when they're working, and a lot of people for some reason don't come to this conclusion, they have a whole animation and writing teams. So even during those 3 months when they are scrambling each week to crank out an episode, they are pretty much there to pitch ideas and guide others.
PC principal was a good addition and really made for some great laughs
>>67080162
>the only funny part was City Wok guy and the So-Do-So-Pa stuff.
Safe Space and hanging Reality was good too.
>>67078526
Last season was the best so far.
>>67078526
Honestly it's far past it's prime. People seem to think the last season was good just because they shat on SJWs even though it was awfully executed. The continuity between episodes doesn't improve anything either.
It's literally one of the best, if not the best comedy series ever created. And it's still good.
Isn't South Park going to end after season 20? I want them to make Orgazmo 2.
>>67081390
Orgazmo 2: TVTA?
>>67080272
Yeah it's become more of a "refrencing whatever is in the news this week" then actual satire and character, hasn't been good for 3 or 4 years, hasnt been great in 5 or 6.
>>67080627
Oh wow you have like a special opinion thats amazing :^)
Tweek x Craig was the best episode in years
>>67078526
For being written on the seat of their asses it has a surprising amount of hits, but they really need to do less topical episodes
>>67080329
>I hope they tone down the videogame stuff in the next season
There's a new game coming so were gonna get a few videogame tie-in episodes. Luckily its Coon & Friends
>>67078526
I LOVE SOUTH PARK BRO I STARTED WATCHING IT THE YEAR 1998 AND STILL WATCHING IT IN 2016 BRO
>>67078613
>>67080234
it was pretty good but the finale was over hyped and felt underwhelming as a result.
The only episode worth watching last season was the episode where they pretended to be ninjas and the town thought they were ISIS. It was a perfect blend of classic South Park and referencing the modern world without being preachy about it.
Otherwise, South Park is generally trash. I hate how it has continuity now, and I hate how incredibly pompous the writing has been. South Park has always been politically inclined to shit on everything, but they have somehow turned that into a philosophy in itself. It has very much become the annoying libertarian who says everyone and everything is stupid. It's idealized apathy. I was genuinely surprised that they didn't ride the progressive narrative dick, instead they just projected "haha you're stupid for caring and having opinions"
also, it's absolute bullshit that they're only doing 10 episodes per season, and obviously not for the sake of quality
What was the last good season of south park?
>>67083659
>Season 14 was really good
>15 and 16 were fine
>17 was pure garbage
i feel like the success of The Book Of Mormon had a lot to do with the downfall of South Park
>>67080733
it is anon thats why i love it, the only way to be truly happy in life is to take the stance that south park promotes only butthurts and carefags dont get it
South Park was declining by the 6th season, by the 11th season they became really fucking terrible other than the occasional stroke of brilliance.
The last season, for example, had lots of good gags but they were all contained in a terrible Family Guy-tier season-long plot-line.
Generally the issue is that they don't come up with anything original and funny anymore. They're just ripping on shit that's in the media by making episodes that all amount to "lol it's just like that thing that was in the news a week ago but with SOUTH PARK CHARACTERS"
