>>67042696
Pretty good.

I used to like it. I watched it again recently and found it very boring.
worst movie ever made
Wasn't even Orson's best movie. Touch of Evil is 10x better

>You fuck that room up, Charlie

This. It's one of those films you can't believe how well they've aged.
Same with Sunset Boulevard and Gone with the wind
the beatles of movies, prove me wrong. I do love them both, however
Orson became Kane
We could've saved him.

I had to walk out after the rape scene
Hipster and non movie normies love to trash it. I enjoy ir more than mister smith goes to Washington but less than 12 angry men
8/10

I like both of them more than Citizen Kane.
Best "Rise and fall" story ever

need to add it here
Prefer the remake t.b.h
>KAW KAW KAW KAW KAW KAW
what did he mean by this

The twist was powerful.
It's a big film.

ywn live in the paradise of hedonism that was Xanadu, surrounded by all the animals of the ark, and housed in a monument the like of wich had not been dedicated to single a mans personal pleasure since the Pharaohs

But Truffaut makes good films :(

Was there actually a cane in Citizen Kane?
Not as good as Citizen Bane.
so much if it seems modern and timeless, that all the dated aspects (acting, dialogue, lack of subtlety) seem worse by comparison. Instead of an old film that seems "modern", it's like a modern film with all the worst aspects of old movies. It just feels odd to me

it's cinema you fucking plebs
If it came out today you'd be like "Yeah, that's a quality 8/10 drama". The reason it gets so much credit is that it's nearly 75 fucking years old!
>>67042796
Sunset Boulevard 100% feels like a modern movie. Literally the only thing that gives it away is being black and white. Absolutely crazy how out-of-time that movie is. Also just a much better movie in every way than Citizen Kane.
Overrated as fuck.
I'll never understand why people hold up this boring dated crap
and pretend that they like it.
>>67045932
Les 400 coups gives me the same impression, save for the way the kids talk sometimes
>>67045969
>boring
Stopped reading there

Sunset Blvd is great and all but maybe you haven't seen too many films from that era. It's not *that* ahead of its time, or out of it. I think the word you want is timeless, not modern
Boring. Pretentious shitbags and film "students" will call it a masterpiece though, because it innovated how cinema was made, but it's still a boring film
An extremely boring film but an innovator at the time. Gettys scenes and the political speech hold out as great scenes, otherwise it's really really dated.
Completely changed the course of film narrative though.

Maybe I'm not giving 1950 its due, but the dark themes, the unlikeableness of all the characters, and the extreme meta-ness of everything, strike me as really modern. Particularly in what I assume was a mainstream wide-release movie at the time.
>>67042696
It is one of those movie, where youll rarely get an honest opinion, because it is a milestone in cinema history and considered "one of the best movies ever made". People dont want to be "plebs", so they will either say it is great or go the contrarian route and say it is overrated
>that fucking cockatoo
Why? Just why? Nearly gave me a heart attack.
>>67046239
The darkness was just film noir in general. Singin in the Rain is another incredibly meta classic Hollywood film. A musical about the history and development of musicals where all the song a are from existing musicals

Kek
Orson's interview with Dick Cavett is really good and worth a watch. Never thought he'd be so jovial.
If you think in a way, this movie has 75 years and its theme up to date, so its absolutely amazing. If something similar to this is made nowadays, its a 6/10 at best.
>>67045687
No, but Welles made up for it by making Hank Quinlan's cane an important plot element in the later Touch of Evil.
That rosebud childhood memory was kinda lame, though.
>>67045990
Yes! Also the camera movement.
It's a very entertaining movie, somehow underrated.
And i'm not kidding.

Watched it when I was 20 and just getting into cinema but couldn't get it. I binge-downloaded it again a few days ago because I'm in a an existential crisis and I hope it can help. Is this a good work of art for a NEET to watch in order to become motivated to find a job?
>>67045866
>The reason it gets so much credit is that it's nearly 75 fucking years old!
How is that not a fair and legit way to judge a film? Of course you have to keep in mind the historical context of his birth. What ridiculous comment you just made.
>>67042696
it's great but since it's babby's first black & white a lot of people who've never seen another film from the 40's and don't know shit about filmmaking will say that it's boring
