It wasn't even the best film of its year. It was pretentious garbage that thought it was better than it was.
The "Pigfuck" scene is definitely one of the best so far

He didn't realize that most people really don't give that much of a fuck about Freddy, the movie could have infinitely better paced without his backstory--anything you learn from those scenes is already told to you by the programming scene in a much better way.

The backstory shows you the world, not Freddie. The world is beautiful, but sterile. The pictures in the department store are perfect, but temporary. The migrant farmers are friendly, but terrifying when mad.
