I don't get this movie. Maybe it's because I'm a girl but he acts like a giant idiot the whole movie and then gets treated like a hero
>>
>Idiot

Well, while he might be mentally unhealthy and have low IQ, as evident of his childlike handwriting, he is nonetheless, the character who is in touch with reality the most.

You have Betsy, the volunteer for Palantine's campaign (more on him later), who isolates herself from personal relationships, she see's Travis as a case study than a romantic partner (unlike Travis, who, while emotionally immature, is far more honest), then adolescent prostitute, Iris, who thinks she's being edgy and having a better life than being in her parent's authority, when Travis see's the reality of it, the authority over her has merely been switched to a pimp. And finally you have Palantine, who, when Travis drives him to his destination, is shocked and uncomfortable when Travis tells him the problems of the city: degenerate scum. Travis knows this because he also interacts with it (i.e. pornography and junk food).

And besides, the reason he is considered a hero, is because the press used him to create another sensational story. But in reality, he is a hero because he fought for what he believed, for what he deemed good, not for what actually is consider "good" or "bad".

but he tried killing palantine? And he killed a ton of innocent people

>>>/tv/tropes

>>66968538
And?
>>
>>66968658
He didn't kill any innocent people. He killed the nigger robbing the store, and he killed all the people in the end that were involved in underage prostitution. That's why he was considered a hero, he saved that girl from a life of whoring herself out.
>>
>>66968701
Well her life didn't seem all that bad to me
>>
>>66968431
>Travis, who, while emotionally immature, is far more honest

His behaviour towards Betsy isn't at all honest.

According to the writer of the movie the reason he brought her to the porn movie was because he hated himself and thought he wasn't good enough for her so intentionally tried to sabotage the budding relationship.

He did it because he couldn't be honest with her.

fuck off roastie whore
>>
>>66968658
who did he kill other than child rapists and people prostituting children most of whom were trying to kill him?

He saved a little girl's life and killed 4 or 5 evil people which outweighs attempting to kill one possible ok person.

>13 years old

Goddamn are women really so fucked in the head that you consider life not being that bad just as long as you're getting some dick regularly?

Not true, I've actually watched the movie with a couple different women that enjoyed it. This woman is just a pleb of the highest degree.

To enjoy is not to understand.

Ok, I'll give you that. I'm still so fucking confused about how this cunt just said "her life didn't seem that bad to me"
>>
Also consider the chance that the epilogue was fantasy
>>
>>66968004

That's exactly the point of the movie. Travis is a violent, antisocial nutjob. He fantasizes about violence because he just can't seem to find any other way to connect with people, make himself significant.

He gets treated like a hero because the people he murdered were "scumbags." This was a time when vigilante justice was a very attractive idea in cities like New York, because crime really was out of control. But Scorsese's point is that Travis is no hero, people who "stand up and take the law into their own hands" are usually not mentally stable. If the Secret Service agent at Palantine's rally hadn't recognized Travis, he would've been in the papers as a crazed assassin instead of a "hero." He didn't really kill the pimps to save Iris. He killed the pimps because he just really wanted to kill someone, and it was a hell of a lot easier to attack a whorehouse than a politician

Is Taxi Driver 4chan: The Movie? There's something in there for just about every board.
>>
>>66968004
>then gets treated like a hero

It was all in his head. He fantasized everything from Palantine's assassination to rescuing Iris.

/tv/, /r9k/, /k/, /b/, /pol/, /fit/, /mu/

What else?
>>
>>66968431
this is an incorrect interpretation of the film. Travis was lonely and self-loathing, came close to trying to assassinate Palantine just so that he could be in some way involved in something important, rescued Iris as part of a suicide mission that fulfilled his need to die for a 'cause' rather than die a pathetic nothing
>>
>Travis Bickle is based on Arthur Bremer. The man who tried to assassinate presidential candidate George Wallace
>Travis Bickle and Jodie Foster get John Hinckley Jr. all excited and fucked in the head
>He tries to kill Ronald Reagan
It's like pottery. It rhymes.
>>
>>66969391
This is much more correct. Travis is a fucking loser. He sees himself as being better than the city he lives in and all the people. In reality he's an insomniac cab driver with delusions of grandeur that cannot relate to people.
