Uh yeah, as that was the essay question that everyone applying had to answer. I enjoyed the movie up to that exact point. You had a guy that rejected the gangster culture and refused to write about his poor black upbringing because it was cliche and he wanted to articulate his personal identity. Then after basically becoming what he hated, he writes the most cliche essay ever. I mean what the fuck? Did the writers all go to the restroom and some #BLM protester wander in and write that scene in?
It could've been a decent movie but in one scene it devolved into a typical "inspirational" race issue movie.
