Explain why sucker punch is a masterpiece.

It's not, but Jaime Chung and oscar Isaac are pretty hot

Never work out for a movie format.
If this shit was an anime instead /a/ would praise it like the second coming of eva
Imagine the circle jerk of waifu fagging and 2deep4you
>>
>>66953793
Why do you consider it a masterpiece? I remember watching this movie when I was like 14 and thinking it was just another flick, however I do admit that the cinematography was pretty good.
>>
it's not but it's very close.

one of the most brutal hate-filled satires ive ever seen, loaded with symbolism and references and done in a way CLEARLY intended to be off-putting to every audience except the ones its targeting (quite literally) and the true patricians who can see the point. the film (and it is a film masquerading as a flick) has so many carrot/stick combinations on so many levels that it's almost awe-inspiring how such a thing could even be possible.

so far ahead of its time it's not even funny, more scary. EASILY snyders best work.
>>
>>66953793
it doesnt even have prime emily browning. that would be series of unfortunate events

and movies like these (that take just the slightest more attention than the average movie to get) use the ego of their watchers as a crutch for quality. you don't have to make a good movie if you can make dumb people feel smart. same reason inception was so popular.

Seeing people's reactions to this film is hilarious. So many people in denial of the idea that they just lacked the brainpower to comprehend something as simple as it doing everything they can to avoid the possibility that it isn't simply beneath them. When the film goes out of its way to make it as clear as it reasonably can in the introduction exactly what it is doing, yet people still miss this, something is simply not working.

>>66955581
>the director was trying to portrait how the sociaty tries to bla bla bla
>it was a satire HAHA, get it?
And this is a perfect example. I don't even know if you're capable of understanding that it's something that's neither a critique of male gaze, nor an ironic parody of girl power action flicks.
>>
>>66956047

>the message?
That's exactly the point. You're going in expecting it to have some kind of message, as if it could simply be reduced to some kind of platitude that "tells you something about life" or something along that line of nonsense.

Sucker Punch is tragic cinema, though in the lesser form of a butchered action flick. It deliberately subverts anything that could otherwise be construed as a message, and that is part of the point.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mlRmTKuEAG4

You have to approach it as an operatic rock musical first and foremost, that's why the whole experience is so overwhelming. It's disappointing that Snyder's plans for this ended up being toned down so much, as I would have adored to see what he would have done were he given more freedom.

It's a slutty-cosplay-girl action movie with extra shit shoe-horned in to give dumb people the feeling there depth. Like the Matrix.

It's not the first action porn movie to put a beret on and let it's fan call it adroit social commentary.

It's not that he thinks it's good, I can accept that no problem (each to their own). it's that he has no idea how to articulate himself because he doesn't understand why he likes it, so just throws everything at us hoping it makes some kind of intelligent point, instead of just accepting he liked it for juvenile reasons.

Saying "it's an operatic rock musical" as some sort of point about its quality is idiotic.

I don't though. I like it primarily for non-juvenile reasons, though I enjoy some of the more juvenile elements of the movie too.

>"it's an operatic rock musical" as some sort of point about its quality

Which I'm not doing. I'm pointing out that the film is intentionally structured like a rock opera, regardless of what you think of it quality-wise, and that's how it really should be seen. It originally was going to have far more musical scenes and fewer action sequences.

>>66956739

One hundred and five replies and not a single mention of Jacques Lacan? For the elucidation of those interested, the narrative of "Sucker Punch" operates on a Lacanian triad of "The Real", The Imaginary" and "The Symbolic". You can not begin to read "Sucker Punch" without that as your starting point.
