I think this is a case where ILM wants to do itsi own avatar. You could make the very same argument with avatar anon. But the challenge it to mix CGI and live action, going full CGI isn't nearly as challenging. ILM wants to do its own avatar, warcraft is the perfect vehicle for this.

The other blizz cinematics don't look nearly as good, and they're apples and oranges. One is a feature length film with a variety of different textures, colors, effects, etc. One is a tiny little cut trailer. They're also trying to capture performances which is probably a lot more taxing.
