What went wrong?
Clerks was great.
Chasing Amy was alright.
Dogma was also great.
What makes this the worst Kevin Smith movie?
I personally don't think it's all that bad but it's certainly the weakest entry.
keep in mind Clerks had a $250,000 budget while this had a $6,000,000 budget.

>What makes this the worst Kevin Smith movie?
Worse than Cop Out, Jersey Girl, and Zach and Miri?
>>66938869
Worse than Jay and Silent Bob?
>>66938786
but Mallrats is the best Kevin Smith movie
>>66938869
I guess I meant to say the movies that include Jay and Silent Bob as characters. The Jay and Silent Bob "Universe" if you will.
>>66938957
>he hasn't seen Clerks
pleb spotted.
>>66938923
Jay and silent bob is good fuck off faggot
this is way superior than chasing amy
>>66939112
The only Kevin Smith movie I haven't seen is Dogma, and my favorite is Mallrats
>>66939398
Oh, well you should really watch Dogma. It's a lot of fun.
>>66938786
>What went wrong?
There's nothing really wrong with Mallrats, it's a fun light hearted romp about twenty somethings in a mall with great dialoge. It just doesn't have the depth of Amy/Dogma or even Clerks 2, and it isn't as raw as Clerks 1. I'd say the quality is about par with J&SBSB.
>>66938786
Mallrats was the first Smith film I saw and I loved it. The next was Clerks and it is my favourite comedy of all time. I don't care for his other films and particularly dislike Chasing Amy.
Pretty sure Clerks was made for $28,000.
>>66938786
I need to rewatch Chasing Amy. When I saw it the first time I was mostly just pissed that the box made it seem like there'd be a decent amount of Jay and Silent Bob, only for them to show up in one scene.
>>66938786
>he hates Mallrats
Maybe it's because I saw it before I turned 14, but fuck you OP, that movie is great. It's stupid, and Jeremy London is a shit-tier leading man, but it's great.

>What went wrong?
Jeremy London
His acting is stiff, robot-like and not believable. He couldn't act sick if you fed him fucking poison.
Still, I enjoyed the movie. The scenes were he had a speaking line were cringe-worthy.
>>66939774
My friend and I had the same reaction when we initially saw it, but upon revisiting it become my favorite of Smith's films. To this day I think it's the best movie he's made. And the budget was only around 250k.
>>66939803
>I personally don't think it's all that bad but it's certainly the weakest
>hates Mallrats
wut
I dunno, after Clerks I was just expecting something similar. But it is a fun romp.
>>66939981
I agree, I hadn't seen a performance that bad since Norm MacDonald was in movies
>>66939981
>>66939803
how the fuck did Jason London get all the charisma?
>>66939031
There's an actual name for those; it's the View Askewniverse.
>>66938786
>Dogma was also great.
OP's invalid.
Mallrats is arguably Kevin Smith's best film.
Jason Lee is hilarious
>>66939112
>he hasn't seen Clerks
Clerks in fun but painful in its production.
Mallrats is much better.
>>66940099
I don't think Jason Lee is a great actor, but when he's used right like in Mallrats or Almost Famous, he's wonderful. Too bad Alvin & the Chipmunks will define his career.
>>66939774
It's actually pretty good. I heard Smith based it around a lesbian girlfriend he had once. The lack of Jay and Silent Bob is pretty disappointing though, upon first viewing.
I never really expected a decent romantic movie from Kevin Smith, but hell, he made one.
>>66940078
neat, thanks for the info anon.
At least we will always have Clerks. After watching Chasing Amy I had a disappoint on Kevin Smith movies, but ok.
>>66938786
okay but seriously:
Clerks > Chasing Amy > Dogma > Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back (for nostalgia) > Clerks 2 > Mallrats
>>66938786
> literally the best Kevin Smith movie
>>66938869
What about Tusk? Yoga Hosers looks terrible as well.

Nothing.
I used to be really into Kevin Smith movies. I really enjoyed the connecting universe. They I watch Jay and Silent Bob strikes back. It was pretty much a shot by shot remake of a comic he wrote.
>>66940166
Psst... The lesbian in the movie was his girlfriend.
