Honestly, I was okay with all the destruction and the killing of Zod, but holy shit did they drop the ball with Pa Kent. I liked the movie, but if they had a better Pa Kent story, I would have defended the movie as being great.

Not according to BvS. Batman's been active for decade(s) in Gotham. Long enough to be 'getting old for this' and to have lost at least one Robin. Wonder Woman is millenia old, so she could show up. Aquaman would be old enough to exist and the dream sequence hints at Flash, Apokolips and by extension the New Gods and all the rest of non terrestrial DC.

I think the parts on Krypton were excellent. I think more than anything the actor was perfectly cast and the cinematography was on point. The story felt forced/rushed though. Also Pa Kent's zamboni scene was just pointless. Should have killed him offscreen.

The fight scenes all went on way too long rendering the insane special effects sequences to become boring fairly quickly.
Also its biggest crime was not giving Michael Shannon anything interesting to do.
