It happened in Brazil. In the 80s. Half my family is Brazilian. It's a stones throw from anarchy down there and communities (small neighborhoods) would take care of themselves. It happened a lot in the area. The mothers giving up the child for the most part knew that they were also giving up any parental rights. It was basically understood there and was done as an absolute last resort.
His bio-mom would visit like once a month then it became once a year. Eventually, she left him alone but they did maintain contact kind of. I'm not sure if she went to his wedding. But he considers my aunt and uncle as his "true parents."

I'm not in Brazil. I'm in America, I was born in America, and I still live here in America. I've been to Brazil about three times when I was young. My mom's hometown in Brazil is a like combo of New York, the deep rural south, Miami, and Beverly Hills depending on where you go.
