Not sure if "corrupt" would be right word for it. The dwarves were made by Aule(a Vala, one of the gods of Arda, which is the planet Middle-Earth is on), without Eru's (basically god) persmission. It was a kind of childlike innocence that made Aule create the dwarves, so Eru wasn't pissed and let it fly. I guess Aule sort of made them out of mountain rock, so there's that.

Sauron recovered the ring from Thrain II in Dol guldur, and the mouth of Sauron offered it to Dain Ironfoot if he would swear allegiance to Sauron. It's the whole reason they decide to send gloin and gimli to elrond to seek advice.

Elves and Dwarves both suffer pretty seriously from power-lust too. But as we see in the second and third book/movie humans give up power just as easily as they claim it. When it comes to sorrow and madness they're even worse than elves. Elves will at least try to hold on to their dignity. A man will destroy himself and everything he loves because he's sad, sadness that is probably every small from the perspective of longer lived people.
And a couple of other anons elaborated on the hobbit thing. They live in a paradise which they take for granted. Because life is so simple for them they don't have much in the way of motivation.
The hobbits we see in the books are the rare few who actually want to get involved in world. Their journey is overcoming the cultural weakness of their people while maintaining the positive aspects of their values.

Yeah, people saying Uruk here are refering to Uruk-Hai, which is something like Orckin. This is what Saruman breeds, but he's not the one who created this species, Sauron did, by crossing humans and orcs.
The actual vanilla orcs made by Morgoth in elder days are what we see in the Mines of Moria. They have nothing for themselves, they are small, weak, not particularly smart or crafty with their hands, and they can't endure the sunlight.
In the Hobbit books, the Battle of the Five Armies involves "goblins", which would later show to be a synonym for orc or uruk (not uruk-hai). In that book, their army needs a cloud to fight, otherwise the light hinders them.
In the movies, what we are shown are almost clearly uruk-hai (which being half-men, don't care about the sun), and I wonder at why that change was made. I guess they needed Azog to look quite strong, and so they had to make all his army around a similar bulk too. Movie Azog is just a human in prime shape with a orc head on top. But really they are supposed to be ghoulish, crouched and coward beasts rather than Warcraft-like killing machines. The pure orcs are shitty on every level.
